Keane: Result Was Fair
Keane: Result Was Fair
Tuesday, 14th Sep 2010 23:10

Boss Roy Keane admitted that his Town side were very much second best to QPR as Neil Warnock’s men left Suffolk after a 3-0 victory. Despite his team’s comfortable win, Warnock felt Portman Road had changed for the better this season.

Keane had no argument with the scoreline: “It was probably a fair result. I don’t think we turned up tonight, we never got going. The second goal killed the game for us.

“I took a few gambles in the second half, which was the only way we were going get back into the game. It was either that or we were going to lose by four or five, it was one of those nights.

“Credit to QPR, they took full advantage of that and they did a good job on us. That’s what good teams do.”

The Blues boss says few of his team impressed: “It was one of those nights where I don’t think many players can say that they were at their best. Márton made some good saves, Connor did well when he came on, but other than that we all looked like we were at 90% and we’re not good enough to get away with that.

Despite the defeat, Keane says there’s no need for too much gloom: “It’s important that we chill out and stay relaxed. Over the last few weeks we haven’t felt that we are that good a team and all of a sudden this evening I don’t think we’re that bad a team. It’s football, it happens.”

Keane says there should be news on the targeted loanee, believed to be Sunderland's Jack Colback, on Thursday.

A buoyant Neil Warnock felt it was important to begin the game strongly: “I knew we had to start well today. Ipswich have had a great start to the season and there’s nothing better football-wise than playing an evening match at Portman Road.

“I was pleased to see the rain bucketing down, it was a great evening to be a forward tonight I thought. We started well and took the game to them and I was delighted when the first goal came and I think it calmed us down and gave us that belief.

“I think we played very well tonight and I don’t think anybody could have coped with the way we played."

Warnock says he expects the Blues to bounce back against Cardiff: “I think you’ll see a different Ipswich performance on Saturday, but on the night we played very well and Roy will be the first to say that.

“But you can see the club has changed this year, you can see the optimism, you can see the fans raring to go and I think it’s a far better place now down here than it was last year.”

Townfan - I think you may be too intelligent for this site. At last someone who says it as it is without going overboard with the anti-keane or pro-keane comments like most post here.

Listening to Matty H on the radio on the way home from the match, I agreed with him why RK went with one up front. QPR have quality midfield players who would not look out of place in the premuiership. What was worrying was the fact that our five players flooding the midfield did nothing to stop them playing.

If you are going to play one up front the midfielders must support. For those who moan about our long ball tactics, for most of the time QPR's pressing meant that there was no alternative to pump it long. The service from Edwards and Townsend last night was woeful and Fulops distribution was very poor. Howerver, my biggest criticism is for RK, not for tryijng a 5 man midfield, but waiting until half time and being 2 nil down before trying to change it. It was clear to everyone in the ground after 20 minutes that the system was just not working and was never going to.

To lose 3 - 0 was bad but really it could have been 6 or 7 and we were lucky to get 0

Not sure what is more disappointing - the performance last night or the fact there are currently 76 comments for this thread. There were HALF the amount when we winning! Sums some of the so called 'fans' up!

I can't believe one poster said he's 'not sad enough to comment on every single article'. Well next time perhaps comment on a positive result and not when we lose - just a thought ...

Entirely predictable responses from certain fans following our first loss of the season.

Keep smiling....

I've only just starting commenting because I've not been able to see any games before last night (despite the season ticket) so can't really comment, but from what a lot of people have said, we are still not playing much better than last year. I dont want us to win ugly.

Thing is its not one game, its one this season and about 40 last season, I just can't see keane turning it around for good and the fact that I generally don't like him adds to me wanting him gone.

No compliants at all. We were poor tuesday night with alot of players having an off night. Still one defeat in 8 is a positive start but it now makes saturday's game with Cardiff a must win.COYB

Chambers, i am not noted on here as the most ardent fan of RK, but while the team is riding high, i feel he must deserve some credit, it was a bad performance, on the night, it was more disapointing because i had hoped the prospect of going top would have fired the players up ,it didnt and we were beaten by a good team and manager. To be honest i expect a similar result Saturday IF we dont get 100% from the team. It was our first defeat this season,RK wasnt too clever with tactics [in my opinion] on this occasion but lets give them a chance to prove it was a blip not a trend .COYB
