Keane: Not Good Enough to Win But Deserved a Draw Tuesday, 28th Sep 2010 22:57
Boss Roy Keane felt his side didn’t do enough to win but probably deserved a draw from the 1-0 defeat at Reading. The Town manager had no complaints regarding Luke Hyam’s sending off for a second bookable offence.
Keane said: “I’m not sure we deserved to win and I’ve been in enough games where it’s nip and tuck with five or 10 minutes to go and the home side usually seem to nick it, and that’s what happened tonight.
“The first goal was vital tonight. Jason had a great chance in the first half. I thought we didn’t play too badly, but if you don’t score goals you put yourself under pressure.
“Again, no goals tonight. We only got the one on Saturday and we’ve had chances, some good chances, the same on Saturday. So, from these two away games, instead of being disappointed with four points, we end up with one.
“We should have won on Saturday and we probably should have got a point tonight. The goal came from a set piece when we should have done better, we were a bit slow getting out. Disappointing. We need to do better.”
Keane had no complaints regarding Luke Hyam’s red card: “I think it was coming and I should have taken him off at half-time.”
Reading manager Brian McDermott was pleased with the way his team kept pushing to the end: “It’s a real testament to the desire and the will of the players that they keep going. We had a good shape to us tonight.
“It was a decent game between two good sides and we’re fortunate to come out on top with the win.
“If you keep going and you’re trying to win it at 0-0 anything can happen. That’s really important to me. There’s a big difference between one point and three points. If you play like that sometimes you might lose a game, but I’ll accept that.”

Clearly a disappointing result. However, Blackpool lost 14 last season and still achieved promotion. If in the next 9 games we only lose 9 we will have done okay. The start to the season on the whole has been good. Roy has addressed our defensive frailties. However, goalscoring is still a problem. Just three goals in our last five league games. Scotland the only striker to score (Priskin scored in the cup). If we want to challenge we need another striker ASAP. Our league record in September has in fairness been somewhat average. Just 5/15 points. We are not a bad side. Roy is doing a good job. But without firepower we will fail to make an impression. That said, Wickham has the talent to push on and Scotland continues to get match sharp. But in the meantime we need a goalscorer!

i dont think scotland can use the excuse of not being fit any more....hes played what 4/5 games now, and training everyday he should be playing to his potential by now. I wouldn't have though there were many defensive frailties jas0999? We finished the season pretty happy with our defense didnt we? I did.

Suffolksam you are truly pathetic, you complain that others are the preachers simply because they defend Roy Keane against your vile attacks on him, can't you see that it is you who is the preacher, by trying to enforce your sad moronic anti Roy Keane attacks on the majority of the other posters on here, who I strongly suspect are far more intelligent than you will ever be, if I have a narrow mind then I can assue you that it channels down the tunnel of decency and respectability, sadly you are apparently incapable of showing either of those qualities, to either a very passionate hard working Manager, or indeed any of your fellow posters who dare to disagree with your own narrow minded views.

Suffolksam you can insult me and others on this site for as long as you wish but every time you do, you are showing everyone who reads your pathetic insulting comments, just what a very foolish small minded person you really are, it is time for you to accept that very few other posters agree with your stupid anti Roy Keane comments, were you not at the game today, I was and saw what a determined bunch of players Roy Keane has assembled, it's time to accept that you are wrong, do yourself a favour and save your silly insults, they are meaningless, it is very clear for all to see that it is you who is the web bully and yes you are the one who comes over as childish and irritating, for your information, no I never shall stop speaking up for what I believe in, go and pick on someone else that you can bully you loser.
