Town Confirm Colback's Return
Town Confirm Colback's Return
Friday, 15th Oct 2010 16:58

Town have confirmed that Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback has rejoined the Blues on loan, as reported by TWTD overnight. The 20-year-old is back at Portman Road until January.

Colback made 33 starts and eight sub appearances for the Blues while spending 2009/10 on loan at Portman Road, scoring five goals. The former England U20 international made a huge impression during his time in Suffolk, winning the Players’ Player of the Year award and coming third in the Supporters’ Player of the Year voting.

The midfielder or occasional left-back returned to Sunderland for the final game of last season, his Premier League debut against Wolves in which was sent off for two bookable offences.

This year, having served his one-match ban, the Killingworth-born midfielder has been a regular on the Black Cats’ bench but only made it on to the field during the Carling Cup victory over Colchester.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce says the latest spell will give Colback a chance to play more first team football: "Jack did very well at Ipswich last season and really enjoyed his time there.

"This will give him a great opportunity to return and get some additional first team experience under his belt and we look forward to having him back in the New Year."

Blues boss Roy Keane has been interested in Colback returning for a second spell since as long ago as May : “I’d take Jack back, of course. He’s been voted the Player of the Year by the players and that tells you how highly we all think of him.

“The boy’s still a kid but if there was a chance of Jack coming back here next season, Brucey knows where I stand on that — we’d take him here with open arms.”

A very good signing. Perhaps he will play at right-back? The centre of midfield is pretty strong now. Leadbitter, Hyam, Norris, Livermore and now Colback! I think Colin Healy will find it tough to break through!

I will be more than happy to welcome back "Little Scholesy" to Portman Road tomorrow afternoon!! Keano's building an extremely exciting squad ... now for the strikers to score some goals!

A real boost, we weren't short on midfield options as it was, but Jack is real quality

thuis will mean we wiont be "relying2 so much on the youngster Hyam. it wiil take the pressure off a bit for him .

But when are we going to get in a RB and another Striker ??

" and we look forward to having him back in the New Year."

That says to me we're not going to have him for the whole season, let alone permanently. Little point in this loan in my opinion, we need solidarity and continuity, not half a team of loanees.

superbluefude - I thought "The New Year" was the January period? Seeing as that is when we have "New years day", and that is when his loan expires?

You more than likely right - but then again you may be wrong, any part of next is still the new year. if you say it in a the right context.

Anyways Colback is a great signing, I still don't understand this need for a striker - why?
and RB - Peters, brown etc have been fine.
we're 5th not doing to bad are we

Great signing and competition in midfield, no one can expect to play each week now! and as for all the comments about right back, i do not recall Peters, Brown or Eastman letting us down yet, it could be worse, we could still be playing Alex Bruce there!

Is Colback better than our other central midielders like Norris, Leadbitter & Livermore? NO.
Do we need more midfield cover? NO.
What we need is a right back & a striker. Silly loan signing.
