Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Sunday, 28th Nov 2010 16:29

Town boss felt his team was made to pay for poor decision making after the 4-1 defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road. Keane refused to criticise referee Keith Hill for Grant Holt’s controversial first goal or Damien Delaney’s red card just before half-time.

Keane said: “Poor decision-making and giving teams a helping hand has cost us. It was a long second half and it was very hard for us to get back into it. We took a bit of a gamble in the last 15 or 20 minutes and we opened the door to conceding more goals.

“It doesn’t matter what I think about the sending off. Let’s not waste our time and energy talking about whether there was cover, whether he actually pulled him back, the ball should have been cleared, simple as that. Same for the first goal.

“I’m not going to sit here and question the officials, there’s been enough of that over the last few weeks from other managers and other countries.”

The Blues boss felt his players made it difficult for themselves: “In any game of football, whether you’re a professional or an amateur, you’ve got to do the basics right and we didn’t do that today, whether that’s for the first couple of goals or the sending off. You make it very hard for yourself.

“At 2-1, even though we’d gifted two goals away, I think we were very much in the game. It was pretty open, they were causing us problems, but I thought we’d be OK. But then there was the sending off not long before half-time.

“We’re not good enough to be giving away goals like that and to be playing with 10 men. We’ve not won the last few games with 11.

“With 10 it wasn’t impossible because at 2-1 we were keeping it tight and trying to nick something on the break or from a set piece, but it wasn’t to be.”

Keane admits that he’s under pressure after four successive defeat and with the Blues having dropped to 16th but says it comes with the territory: “When you lose matches, it creates pressure but that comes with the job. You know that when you come into it and you’ve got to deal with it.”

Norwich manager Paul Lambert was delighted with Canaries hat-trick hero Grant Holt: “I thought Grant was unplayable at times. I thought him and Chris Martin were a handful right from the off and when those two play the way they can do, we’ve always got a chance.”

can't believe some people are still backing Keane on here. "Blame the players!" They cry. None of the defenders who made such ridiculous errors would be at the club if it weren't for Keane. It's obvious that Lambert instructed his players to press our defenders in possession. He identified a weakness and capitalised on it. That's management that is, giving your players a plan, getting them to play to it, and reaping the rewards. The kind of stuff RK doesn't do. Nor can he react when other people do it. When it became obvious that Norwich were doing it, did we react? Did the defenders get instructed to be more positive/urgent in possession. Clearly not, as they continued to dawdling, dwelling on the ball in dangerous situations.

Keane has got to go. He should've gone in the summer. No press conference today is depressing.

BE CAREFUL CALLING FOR CHANGE YOU MAY NOT GET ALL THAT YOU WISH FOR !!! IF MR. EVANS THINKS THE SUPPORTERS HERE ARE SO FICKLE HE COULD PULL THE PLUG ( I HEAR MANDARIC IS LOOKING FOR ANOTHER CLUB TO RUIN , AFTER PORTSMOUTH & LEICESTER ! ) SO BE A LOT MORE THOUGHTFUL ABOUT WHAT YOU WISH FOR !!!

With the way the so called supporters are behaving no manager worth anything would come to us anyway ( only so much abuse can be tolerated ) and any that did want to come would be not up to your so called standards !!

meekreech: name another set of supporters who would be backing Keane now? Starting with the "promotion in 2 seasons max", "any average manager" stuff, most fans would've bailed after the 15 matches without a win last season. They certainly would've been anti-Keane after finishing 15th (after 6.5m spent), and now? Now it's HIS PLAYERS, losing 8 in 10? After getting creamed, live on national tv, by our recently promoted local rivals? What supporters, on the whole planet, wouldn't want the manager out of a job?

Finally have the time to write a real post. Spent most of the night consolling my son who had to sit there and watch that embarrassment live. Don't know what was worse, watching the match or seeing some of our own fans (only a handful but very vocally) singning "We're so s*** its unbelievable". Truth of the matter, we were.
Real confusion about rb, I thought Guiverloon had come in to replace Eastman? why was delaney there most of the time? why was Fulop having to work extra time because of our s*** defence? why was healy on for Scotland? (when was the last time Healy scored?) why was henri whatisname allowed to run the game? why don't we have anybody with the balls of Grant Holt? (he knew how important this game was) why did we sit back and accept 4-1 (norwich turned off the accelarator)? why did our fans start singning along with the norwich fans? when did we allow our football club to turn into a mockery and disgrace?
My son has a picture of Man Utd on his wall now, he is ashamed to be an ipswich fan.

Go back a few years to when one " Bobby Robson " came ! What treatment did he get for his first years in charge ? I know RK is not the same type of man ( no-one could match BR ! ) but he was treated in much the same way as RK is at the moment and came good ! Our supporters wanted BR out as well as he did not deliver for a long long time . RK should have thought before raising hopes with " promotion in 2 years " but have we really become so intolerant and nasty in our attitudes ?

I cant beleive the decisions Keane made. That was awfull, colin healy on for scotland? then, losing 4-1 you decide to take priskin off for a defender, what are you thinking man! I think any one would have a better tactical mind than that!

I know emotions are running high but it is time to move forward and to learn from our mistakes. We have a big cup game coming up and the Club, Team and Manager need our support. A place in the semi-final of a prestigious tournament is at place. The team need to come out and be cheered not boo'ed. Confidence is obviously low, and we need to try and build it up again. I am mortified by the recent result and stunned at the level of anger on this site.
Meekreech is dead right. Keane is going nowhere and if we continue to show our anger- Evans, who is a Chelsea fan , will see that the time is right to sell the club and invest in something else (he owes no particular loyalty to the club). We should be grateful to him for saving us when we were at a particularly low ebb.
Keane listened to us against Norwich. Against wiser judgement he put out the 4-4-2 that you were all craving for. He used tactics that the players were not used to and injuries were a key factor. We got slaughtered, but he played OUR tactics not his tactics. A 5-4-1 was much wiser against Norwich and may well have got us the 0-0. Instead we tried to play Norwich at their own passing game (look where that led us).
You are all looking for Keane to be sacked (a majority anyway) but he won't be. Nobody here has thought about the boards expectations pre-season. What were they? None of us know, but maybe they were to avoid the relegation zone , develop the youth team and get into the last 16 of a cup? Now if this was the criteria, has Keane met them? The board wouldn't have looked to promotion as a target this season (considering the position we were in last season). What would they have given as targets?
Why don't we shock Keane and the Team against West Brom? Rather than jeering, why not sing out loudly and proudly “We love you Ipswich, we do,we love you Ipswich we do” etc. If we give something to them and show our love for them, then maybe, just maybe, they will return the favour.
Show the world that we are not “fickle” fans.

Was out yesterday so won't see it until bbc iplayer tonight, but in cold light of day according to Telegraph.co.uk report, the turning point of the game may have been the hat trick man not getting sent off for the 3rd minute assault on Jack Colback, referee bottle out or did he not see it. Very strong referee needed for derby games, an assault is a red card whoever it's by and at whatever stage of the game.

THere are a lot of very negative emotions out there this morning after this humiliating result. A majority on this site today are expressing that it is time for Keane to go. I think it would be respectful though to keep the comments within civilised bounds: substituting symbols like %$# in words which are abusive is not constructive criticism.

Until we get Macca back i can see us losing every game. but if we'd had him in the side and Delaney hadn't been sent off we'd have won, simple as that. Until the dismissal we were bossing it.

Rkeaneisagod --you say keane went 442 because he listened to the fans it's what we where craving for?? Haha so explain why townsend wasn't used on the left of the 442, I think colback is very good and really hope we sign him permanent but he isnt better than Townsend in that position!
He doesn't have a clue any more!!

Did anyone notice Edwards face as the board went up for profound substitution?? I think he was supprised as all of us! Says it all doesn't it.....

But any way let's hope ol'keano has a masterplan lol didn't he take suderland from nearly bottom to champions once????? Hmmmmmmmm

RKeaneisagod i dont care whether i am banned off this site or not but to say "we need to move foward" or "we need to learn from our mistakes" are you f.....g joking? and as for the other bloke being upset with swear words i get more upset with looking at division one football with Rory Fallon leading the front line. this club is in trouble big time and if Evans did read this and decided to sell it would be the greatest thing i have ever done for ITFC!!

KEANE AND CLEGG OUT!!! KEANE AND CLEGG OUT!!! KEANE AND CLEGG OUT!!!
KEANE AND CLEGG OUT!!! KEANE AND CLEGG OUT!!! KEANE AND CLEGG OUT!!!

The sooner Keano resigns or is sacked the better.
Have nothing positive to say about the manager or the team after yesterday.
Living in Narwich and being an Ipswich fan is no fun at the moment
