Watford Match Postponed
Watford Match Postponed
Sunday, 26th Dec 2010 13:48

The match this afternoon between Town and Watford has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

An inspection at 13:15 deemed the pitch to be inconsistent with some areas playable and others not.

bluelady, clearly the hot air blowers werent used or the pitch would have been fine. those blaming the ref, yer, clearly this decision shld have been made earlier, but if the groundstaff had done their job, there wldnt have been any need 4 an inspection.

I don't see the arguement for undersoil heating, this is the first postponement for thirteen years, why waste money for a once every ten year ccurance. The main problem today was the unproffessionalism of ITFC for not realising that the pitch was unfit to play on this time yesterday. If there had been any doubt then the Ref should have been aware of this fact and held a 9.00 am inspection.

There was never any chance of a thaw today, so leaving it to midday would have been a waste of time. The arguement that last Saturday was worse than today is rubbish. Today we have parts of the pitch which are rock hard and dangerous, last week it was soft playable snow with soft soil underneath.

Yet again as with the management, ITFC have managed to stuff things up. At least we have something different to discuss today! Nevertheless - Keane Out!

Calling the game off at such short notice is awful. why was,nt the pitch inspection earlier. i could,nt go today and gave my ticket to someone else and the coach got as far as halesworth when then heard and had to turn round and go back to lowestoft. feel sorry for the watford fans as well. this should have been sorted this morning not 1.15pm. very badly organised itfc and referee.i wonder if the ref did it after all the fuss leicester made last saturday and he did,nt want any hassle.

We arrived at ground after 30 mile journey just as gates were supposed to open.Hot dog stands etc all set up so a lot of people have been inconvenienced.Missed last game through weather, first in nearly 50 years and now this.Didnt consider it would be called off and people we told still coming to ground thought we were joking.
One rule for Murdochs Sky and sod every one else!Money talks.

Come on you miserable lot, I am as dissapointed as all posters, but surely the ref would have checked this out earlier in the today ?

Also would rather spend money on a new striker rather then underground soil heating. How many games have ITFC called off in the last 20-30 years

Given Roy Keane a few more days in charge, merry Xmas to you all.

Just arrived back home ---- Not good enough; checked and re checked before we left; having bought an extra ticket over the phone!!!! no mention that the game was in any doubt at all.
I really hope that the match we will be re-scheduled on a Saturday/Sunday and NOT an evening match as that would mean yet another match missed on ST.

Poor show ITFC! An obvious lack of communication between ITFC officials and the Referee. I would assume the Referee was given assurances that the pitch would be playable, otherwise he would of arranged his inspection accordingly. Faced with a frozen pitch he would have no other choice than to postpone the game.

Just got home (Romford) from a round trip to Colchester and back (110miles) after hearing the game this afternoon has been called off. This behaviour is unacceptable and is taking the **** out of fans. The match last week which was played in rediculous conditions, I also missed. I am a long-term season ticket holder and was advised by police not to travel unless an emergency! Now today, a pitch "miraculously" gets frozen just before KO. If the pitch was frozen @ 1:15pm, it was frozen @ 12:30pm when I set off! 2 **** seasons and now 2 **** matches!

Shame for our fans who travelled and yours ofcourse.

Seems like the ref didn't think the pitch would hold up....

Really pi**ed off about this, ok if the pitch is frozen, it's frozen, but to call it off 1hr before kick off is a bloody joke, as has been previously said, if it was deemed not playable at 1:15pm it could have been called off at Mid-day, & saved us all a trip.

To make matters worse Santa bought my 5 year old a ticket yesterday, so he could attend his first Town match, (name & picture in the programme & everything, didn't get one.) I guess now the re-arranged fixture will be a mid-week one, think that will be too late for him.

Pitch was as hard as concrete & would never have taken a stud in a million years... The ref arrived at 12:45 which was far too late to make the 13:00 inspection.... Should have been inspected at 9am to give everyone enough notice before travelling!

Just got home from Ipswich and I have throughly enjoyed my 4 hour drive to Portman Rd car park and back. A morning inspection would've been nice guys as people do have to make plans and travel to these games. But I suppose the ref had too much to drink and wasn't fit to drive to the ground first thing!! At least I have had another 130 miles added to my 20 years experience of driving so that's good isn't it.....Ho Ho Ho....

Just got home. Over 3 hours of travelling today ... spent £4.40 to park and what just over a tenner on petrol. Checked to ensure the game was still on this morning. At 13:45 we get news the game is off - NOTHING from the staff of ITFC. No information. This is an outrage and truely disgusting. The ref has to take 30% of the blame. ITFC 70% (IMO).

The club MUST have known earlier in the day that there were issues with the pitch, so why did it take so long to carry out an inspection? Why didn't the staff do their job with this so called brilliant 'balloon'? Clearly not that great.

This is yet another lack of thought for the fans. Ipswich should have brought the attention of the pitch to someone's notice earlier in the day - it was VERY unlikely that the conditions would improve throughout the day - so all parties should have made an early decision. The lack of communication from PR also re-iterates the club do not care about the fans.

Nearly 3 hours to drive to Ipswich, tuned into BBC Radio Suffolk at Copdock at about 13.10, ten minutes later as I approached Sainsbury's I got the bad news!! Before the return journey I mingled with a few Town and Watford fans outside the ground and like me they were stunned by the decision. Why on earth the pitch inspection was left so late is beyond me. Alan Ferguson, a brilliant carer of grass, should have had his team putting boiling water on the pitch throughout the morning, not for 30 minutes or so after the referee first had a look!! I doubt I will make the rearranged midweek game but cannot get a refund for this postponed game until the new date is announced! All in all not a great Boxing Day!!

(Apologies for all the exclamation marks!)

It's not entirely the REF's fault I am afraid. Look at Doncaster - you don;t honestly believe the Referee has said 'I'll set off for Doncaster a day eraly to check the pitch'? Some of you people are unbelievable! Doncaster have planned ahead - raised concerns about the pitch. The Ref probably arrived thinking there was no issue - ITFC should have riased concerns much earlier to the FA. Sounds as though they didn't. Probably a good call by the Ref, not so good by ITFC.

Gutted! Mrs Runaround was coming today as a friend couldn't make it, she hasn;t been able to go to a game since the Dale Roberts memorial match in 2004 and was really looking forward to it, as was I. Not entirely sure who is to blame but a decision made that late was ridiculous and should have been made earlier to stop people travelling unnecessarily

Another example of the fans being taken for granted, and the p### being taken.
One day soon again, hopefully, the supporters of this club will be treated as they should be - not holding the breath tho' for that to happen. Sad fact of today's lack of respect for people.
