Keane Set for Target Talks
Keane Set for Target Talks
Tuesday, 4th Jan 2011 10:19

Blues boss Roy Keane says he doesn’t yet know whether any players will be moving either in or out of Portman Road before this Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Chelsea, but is expecting to speak to a manager regarding a target today.

Keane revealed last week that the Blues had received loan interest in a senior player, with Swansea understood to be chasing Tamás Priskin, and he says he has spoken with various bosses recently: “We’ve had a loan offer and we’ve had conversations. I’m not trying to be clever with you. You have loads of conversations with different managers. Some make enquiries, some follow them up, just like we have.

“I’m due to speak to a manager [on Tuesday], he’s going to get back to me regarding a player. I think it changes by the day, I suppose with the transfer window being open it changes hour by hour.”

Speaking after last night’s game, the Blues boss said that losing to Forest didn’t mean he was intensifying his search for new signings: “I’ve been keen to strengthen for the last 16 or 17 months, so the next few days won’t make a difference. I won’t be on the phone tonight. That won’t speed up where we need to go as a football club.

“We’re looking at two players, that’s what we’re trying to bring to the club and trust me, as soon as any deals are done, I’m sure you’ll be the first to know.

“At the moment, there’s no news on any players, whether they’re coming or going. Please God, when I’m due to speak to you on Thursday or Friday, hopefully I’ll have news for you.”

Asked whether Priskin is set to join Swansea, the Town manager said: “Not as of today. Tamás, along with young Rooney [Ronan Murray] and one or two of our other young boys, will be playing for the reserves [in a behind closed doors friendly against Crystal Palace] on Tuesday because he hasn’t been involved in the last couple of games. That’s standard.

“Tamás nearly made it for the Forest game but young Rooney’s done well in training, Rory’s been a handful, Connor’s had his first 90 minutes, while Jason has had two games in three days. Tamás has got a bit of competition, he’s just missed out over the last few games. There’s no problem with Tamás."

Colin Healy, Luciano Civelli, Reggie Lambe, Conor Hourihane and Jack Ainsley are also in the reserves side facing the Eagles second string.

Keane, who fears that the Blues could lose Jack Colback after his loan spell ends on January 14th, says there have been no further developments regarding the current loan players.

The Blues boss feels that recruiting senior temporary signings is not a simple business with a specific target, perhaps Andy O'Brien who is set to join Leeds, having proved hard to persuade to move to Suffolk: “Attracting loan players is always difficult, particularly experienced players because of our location.

“Don’t be expecting two or three loan players coming in over the next few days. It might have to be one or two young players who are quite happy to move away from their families.

“Hopefully the lads we might be looking at won’t be married or have kids so they can put up with staying in a hotel for a couple of months and are young, hungry and want to do well.”

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is reported to have denied making Plymouth a bid for on-loan Town striker Rory Fallon.

The only talks that should be happening is Marcus Evans with Roy Keane to tell him he is SACKED. How this is still carrying on is beyond me?! We have two weeks until our next league game so do it now & get someone else in.

& its not the loaction thats a problem.. Its just another excuse your using Keane because you are a tw*t & nobody wants to play for you.

Well it looks like Keano is here to stay, by the reading the above report, I would not mind so much if his first signing was an experienced assistant manager
Ray Wilkins or similar, but I suppose it will not be !!!! So come on Marcus Evans sort it out one way or the other and let us hear from you !!!
I know you are reluctant to release your purse strings, so we will probably have to rely on loanees again, the same route Norwich took last season !!!!!!

Send Colback back.

Get Austin or Midson ,we are desperate for a natural finisher . Get rid of Colback as we are accomadating him in the team rather than playing him in his natural position and as last season it upsets the balance .Also try and get De Laet on loan from Man Utd now he has been called back from Preston .
But most of all Roy decide on your best 11 and try and stick to it as much as possible then the players and the supporters might have a chance of working out what your game plan is if you have one

Love your comments Roy. Its all do do with the clubs location that you can't attract players. Well Norwich don't seem to have that problem getting loaness so WTF??

Watched the football league goals yesterday there are lots of good players with potential and the hunger to do well at a higher level if I were in charge would be getting in
Lalanna and Lambert from Southampton
and Mackil-Smith from Peterborough
and Charlie Austin from Swindon
Why the f**k dont we sign these type of players?

I would have thought that an experienced player would jump at the chance to move to Suffolk. Surely if they have a young family Suffolk is a great place to bring them up and all that. Exactly why RK is here too.

Thanks for the information about absolutely nothing again, why can't you just say there is no news because we can't be bothered, which would be much nearer the truth, what a load of garbage, but then what else can we expect from a club in such a state of affairs.

SHAMBLES.

Ipswich 24, yes Lalanna and Lambert i have been calling for all season. Living in Oxfordshire i get the news also for Southampton and these players are quality and want to play in the premier league. Only problem is that we are far away from that and to get them to Ipswich will be hard unless keane goes and a manager with proven ability and experience can further build there careers.

People should get real and stop the cash flow, boycott the games, it's the only way to get rid of the trash that is Roy Keane.

We still believe in you Roy. Ignore the doubters. They are the same ones that wanted big fat Joe to go and Burley and Magillton. They are also the same lot that wanted you IN and sang KEANO KEANO again and again at the beginning fo your reign. Football fans are a fickle lot arn't they.

Charlie Austin is a good player but I think its our style of play that contributes to us not scoring more. I dont think Austin would greatly improve our attack line.

Scotland is a natural scorer and proven at this level. Priskin is more than capable at this level and has shown that in spells this season when given confidence and opportunity. Wickham is supposedly a world class striker in the making and we have a young "Rooney" in the squad. Fallon seems to be first choice striker at moment and looks decent.
I believe we have the firepower just not the tactical skill to use them fully.
Norris on the right looked more effective as an attacking outlet that Edwards. Carlos, despite his qualtites, makes wrong decisions too often. Its a shame O' Connor is missing, he looked the business when given his "late" chance on left mid. I like Colback but he doesnt have much attacking instinct and is more of a utility man. Give Peters a chance out left.
I hope Keane gives Hyam a chance (if fit) in Leadbitters place. But it looks as if Livermore will get the nod. Hopefully with a run of games Livemore can find some good form. He has some creative ability but has he got the appatite for championship? Im not so sure.
Keane is not a fan of attacking full backs which also hampers our attacking options.
With no forwarding thinking FBs, no creativity from inner midfield and our problems in wide areas its no wonder we cant get amoung the goals. Long balls forward seems our best option with current players Keane favours hence the decision to play Fallon. This is one reason Fallon looks our best striker at the minute.

Throwing more players into the mix wont change Keanes game plan/style. It may give a temporary boost to performance but its paper over cracks.

We have the players. A fresh approach is needed. Unless RK changes his approach I fear the worst.

Even the best strikers in the world need a decent supply to score their goals!! The only attacking forward ball tactic that we seem able to use is the hoof it is far as you can tactic. This does not enable or require skillful players!
