Drury Confirms Luton Exit Imminent
Drury Confirms Luton Exit Imminent
Wednesday, 26th Jan 2011 10:06

Luton midfielder Andy Drury has confirmed that he expects to leave Luton for the Championship this week but says he’s not yet sure which club he will be joining. Town are believed to be the frontrunners for the 27-year-old’s signature but Coventry and Sheffield United have also been linked.

Speaking after the Hatters’ 1-0 Blue Square Bet Premier victory over Grimsby at Kenilworth Road last night, Drury said he thought it was probably his last game for the Bedfordshire club: “I think so, but you never know in football.”

Asked directly whether Town was his destination the former Sittingbourne, Lewes and Stevenage man said: “I’m not too sure which club, but we’ll see what the rest of the week brings. I’ve loved my time here at Luton, it’s been a great six months for me.

“I’m looking forward to it, a bit gutted I’m not finishing the job with Luton but it’s something I can’t turn down, so I’m looking forward to it now.”

Drury is understood to have a clause in his contract which means that he can move on if the Hatters receive an offer of £150,000.

Simon clegg can only work within the wage structure and budget that marcus evans gives him

@VILJOEN67 this is true but to be dealing with money in football you need vastly different qualities than fronting an olympics bid which is all about PR. Clegg is great with the PR side of things but we need someone with experience in transfer dealings in the modern game to help Evans. Someone who knows the transfer side of the game better would be able to advise Evans better on fees and wages needed not just try and cope with funds given.

Could have put it better myself Casanovacrow

"Isn't about being miserable, its about concern that the people running our club haven't got a clue about what they are doing. ME needs to get rid of SC and get in someone who has a clue how to run a football club. It's blatantly obvious he's out of his depth."

SC is a disaster for sure. Doesn't seem to want to learn either!

corshamblue but my point is we wont change things, Clegg isnt going anywhere unfortunately so we either spend each day feeling gloomy or we accept what we have keep our chins up and back the team. That was my point....... not saying i disagree with the points necessarily. dont forget though Clegg is simply Evans puppet not sure he has much decision making powers. Also Casanovacrow if we are going to analyse Clegg i personally think he is awful when it comes to PR, there are many things he could do to try to bring more people to watch the games but doesnt seem able to see that.

Is he any better than Colin Healy? Assume if we sign him either one of Leadbitter/Norris will move on. I am not sure whether I rate Drury above either of those.

Drury can play in any position across the midfield.
I think Ipswich will be signing Drury as predominantely a Right winger!(if we sign him)

Seems to me people are missing an important factor in all this transfer argument - Paul Jewell knows the game and the transfer process (undoubtedly better than RK ever did) and has already identified and attracted a better class of target than Mr Clegg has ever had to deal with. I can't imagine for a moment that he will stand by and watch his efforts be undermined, nor that he will attempt to break the wage structure at the club unless he feels it unrealistic (in which case I'm sure he will say so!)

At this stage it would be prudent for us all to stop the negative (and regrettably destructive) approach to which we have become acustomed, and get behind PJ and the team with the same grit and determination that the team showed at the Emirates last night.

Times are changing at ITFC (for the better I believe) so maybe it's time we all changed our tune just a little bit too?

(Apologies - my comment seems to have turned into a book!)

Jewell said he wanted more width in the team and I feel Drury will play on either side of midfeild, he could also be fantastic backup in the centre of midfeild as Norris and Leadbitter tend to pick up a fair few amount of cards! Jewell knows what he is doing and it would be sad to see norris move on (there is still a chance he could stay)! But ITFC will still carry on and Jewell is easily capable of replacing norris. COYB!
