Jewell: Bullard Gives Us Something Different Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 12:17
Boss Paul Jewell says new loan signing Jimmy Bullard will give the Blues another option in the centre of midfield. Bullard, 32, has signed from Hull City on loan until the end of the season.
Jewell told the club site: "I know Jimmy well from our days at Wigan and he will give us something different in the middle of the park.
"He has played in the Premier League and has a lot of experience. He is a good technician and a good passer of the ball. He's also a great character and will improve our squad."

If he stays fit, I think he will provide an excellent addition to the team. Even the financial terms of his loan deal (if true) look favourable for once.
He can be an excellent playmaker if he stays fit. Not a bad frree kick taker either. It would be fgood to get more quality balls to the front men = more chances = more goals
An unbelievably good signing if we get some games out of him. He was amazing at Fulham, saved their season and kept them up with some awesome performances and goals from free-kicks etc. Hope he can get some form back and help our ball retention and distribution as well as set pieces.
I hope he's not another Campo (i was equally keen on him coming back n the day but that was not great for us...)
I have reservatons> He is 32 and injury prone but I remain reasonably hopeful. If he can stay fit he could be very useful, if of couse his heart is really in it.
If you play him in the right formation, with maybe a holding midfielder (Hyam) behind I don't think age will be an issue.
All we need now (assuming we get Austin and St Ledger) is a goalkeeper (who can catch a cross) and a right back. I hope that young Shane O'Conner can be given another chance at left back.
@TheRef: because he has had a lot of injuries - not his match fitness. But it is a win win for us surely, as he'll go back to Hull if he gets injured again? Pleased with this one. Fingers crossed for Austin too.
Very good signing in my opinion and the conditions of the loan are also good! We've lacked some composure on the ball in midfield, someone who is confident on the ball and can pass! Also a good set piece player who can hopefully beat the near post unlike Leadbitter! Obvious question mark over his fitness and injury proness, but this couls proof to be a masterful move by Jewell. Get Austin in too and we're good to go! Things are most certainly looking up and positive at last!
Just to keep you informed, Bullard has been a disaster for us, both on and off the pitch. He has twice had SERIOUS knee injuries and has only made 18 starts in two years. Notwithstanding the frailty of his knees his mind has also been badly affected and he is now a pale shadow of what he once was. Our last owners paid £5m for him and paid him £45k a week despite them being aware his knees were already badly weakened. He is a comic and a loveable rogue type in the dressing room, but he also likes partying in many forms. He won't get near our first team as, believe it or not, we have better options in Koren, Corry Evans and Belaid who are all younger, fitter and more mentally stable.
For us it's a no brainer, we loose part of his salary for a few months and with him (if he works out) you might take some points off the teams above us.
Terrible injury record since he left Wigan, I get the gut feeling Jewell knows how to get the best out of him and will not over play him either, might be a Ledley King scenario where we have to wrap him up in cotton wool and save him for the important games.
Perhaps though he realises he wants to get his head down and play some football though at long last for a team that until recent years plays some of the best football in the country. I definitely think Jewell is the man to get the best out of him and even if he does get injured again, at least we havent wasted a substantial transfer fee on him!
Think Clegg deserves a bit of credit of this one, only paying £10k towards his wages, good bit of business. We bash him for deals supposedly falling through, think he deserves a well done for this bit of business. I will personally buy him a beer if he signs Charlie Austin as well, sign him up!!!
this agreat move in the right direction for town , jewell has worked well so far in a short peroid of time now lets get austin in and another centre back if mcauley dont sign a a new contract .
This is superb bit of business for us, on loan so if things dont work out, we haven't lost anything, but i believe he will prove to be a quality signing.
Interesting that a Hull fan should choose to comment above. I understand from a close friend who is a Tigers season ticket holder that there is a rumour that the challenge is to keep Jimmy out of the pub (particularly entertaining younger, impressionable members of the squad). Let's trust that Paul Jewell can do this.
