Connor Wickham's goal against Sheffield United on Saturday is being hailed as one of the best ever scored at Portman Road, but which other goals are worthy of joining it on the list?

This is easy - and although I haven't read all of the posts on this topic (yet) no doubt my choice will feature several times...

31/01/1987 - Kevin Wilson, away at Man City in the Full Members Cup. The best goal I've seen. The ball was delivered over his left shoulder, going away from the goal, outside the left hand side / corner of the 18 yard box, with City's Kenny Clements in close proximity. Wilson hit the ball like a rocket, ended up in the top right hand corner of the goal, going across the keeper, if you will, bending back towards goal - superb strike, keeper no chance. This was the 2nd leg, if I recall, with the score at 1-1 from Portman Rd. We went behind twice, eventually winning what was a great game 3-2, with Town's goals from Psycho Humes and Mark Brennan. In some ways the goal was similar to one of Marcus Stewart's goals in the play-off semi at the Reebok. That too was a lovely hit. Talking of which Reuser's goal at Wembley was a beauty - simply beacuse it meant so much and topped off a wonderful experience / season / day out...

i agree with peterleeblue for me it was Ian Atkins goal V Oxford in April 1986 to win 3-2 in stoppage time, it was my 1st ever visit to PR, we had travelled 190 miles to be there but i couldnt believe the atmosphere and when the goal went in the North stand poured on to the pitch, we all thought we had done enough to stay up and then we got robbed at West Ham a few days later, Oxford then Hammered Arsenal 4 - 0 a full 2 days after everybody else had played their last games and we were down.i will never forget the noise that day, i thought i could still hear the singing halfway home!!
the following season Dozzell scored an absolute cracker at WBA in my 1st away game when we came from 3-1 down to win 4-3. brilliant memories

Both been mentioned already. Home goal - Paul Mason v Crystal Palace - from where I was sitting in Cobbold Stand with Mason just below me you could see the fear in the keeper Chris Day's eyes he knew it was in from the moment it left his foot. Away goal - Ian Marshall at Charlton, so stunning I don't even know how he did it, what a great finisher one of the best finishers we've ever had.

There are two which recur in my daydreams.
1968: The Magnificent McGarry Men go up as champions with a headed goal in front of The North Stand by The Second Coming of Ray Crawford, who hovered for what seemed like several seconds before looping the ball home.
And the other was Billy Baxter in injury time on a Tuesday night against Arsenal.
I somehow saw it through the fog all the way down at the Churchman's End from the North, and the crowd which had been fantastic all night went crazy because it kept us in the First Division. Don't remember the year. The Daily Express (my dad's paper, not mine !) mockingly imagined an Ipswich fan years later, just like me, recalling the moment : " Ah, I remember it foine. It was the noight we beat th'Arsnal" And I do !

Alun Armstrong's header in the 80th minute against Inter in the UEFA Cup, November 2001. A magnificent centre forward's header on a cold night against the aristrocrats from Milan in front of a newly enlarged North Stand. Magic.

Eric Gates scored a beauty at my first ever Town game - 2-2 against Liverpool, 1983 - one touch to control followed by curling right foot volley into the top corner at the Kop end from about 30 yards. TWTD!

i reckon for the next week the best ipswich goals will be the ones that beat Barnsley this week.i do remember watching a game from the churchmans years ago when we beat some austrian team 5-0 and wark scored 4 i think cant quite remember to much as too much of a good time in the last 25 years has deleted many of my files

David Johnson scored a similar goal quite a few years back against Barnsely in our promotion season, when he took the ball on the half way line and dribbled his way into the heart of the defence before unleashing an unstoppable shot. It was, in my view, marginally better than Connor Wickham's but Jonhson was a well established player so this levels things out a bit I guess.
