Tune for Town Deadline Extended
Tune for Town Deadline Extended
Thursday, 10th Feb 2011 10:21

Tom Hark by the Piranhas and The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger have both been used as Town’s goal celebration music in recent seasons but now the search is on for a local artist or band to create a new piece of music to accompany the inevitable post-goal jumping around and screaming. Six tracks can now be heard on the Supporters’ Club website and the deadline for submitting further entries has been extended.

With music copyright laws changing, clubs are facing increased demands for fees and royalties, therefore Town and a number of other clubs are looking to provide their own music for goal celebrations.

This is an opportunity not only to give Blues fans a new piece of celebration goal music, but also provides a budding or established artist or band a great chance to gain media attention and put themselves on the musical map locally.

Those interested in providing material, which should consist of a piece of music about 30-45 seconds long, should send it to Barry Calver, who is on the Supporters' Club's media committee, at the address below, before February 28th 2011.

After this cut-off date, depending on the number received, the entries will be played at half-time in two or three home games later in the season to gain supporters’ general opinion.

Town will then call on fans to make the final decision by casting their votes via the matchday programme and various websites with no music at all amongst the options.

The six entries so far can be heard on the Supporters’ Club site here. The tracks are Let’s Go to Town and Portman Pulse, both by recent The Naked Football Show guest Asa Jennings, Let’s Go to Town On It and The Blue Town Riot by Johnnie Taylor, Lungs by Simon Wilson from the band Ideals and Tractor Boys Theme by Mark Topham.

All entries to be sent on a CD to:

Sod the music....too busy jumping around and cheering to hear it anyway. Score, Cheer and probably sing relevant song about who scored goal anyway. No music please.
Whats also bugged me lately, going slightly off the subject, is getting told to sit down by the stewards when we have a free kick or a corner. I mean come on, it's already put the dampeners on the atmosphere sitting down throughout the game, but when we have a chance of scoring, let us get up and raise the volume/get excited etc etc. Anyone agree..??

Just listened to the "tunes" and that's 5 minutes of my life I'm not going to get back! I agree with BlueMoolay anyway, I'm always to busy going nuts when we score to care about the music!! The best music in the world is the Sir Bobby Stand when we score anyway!!!

BlueMoolay - totally agree with the stewards killing the atmosphere! In fact, I would argue that seating is more dangerous than standing on terraces, but that is another story ....

Bring back limited terraces!!!

I guess the club is doing this because copyright is costing megabucks every season, and for what its worth when Town score I'm in orbit so I don't hear the music anyway....
But having said that, I can't believe some of the negative and crass comments on here about people who are trying to make a difference, but then again whats new? Sorry to say it but us Town supporters sure do know how to winge! Get a life....

the owner is a multi-millionaire, the cost is peanuts, less than the price of a set of tyres on Clegg's motor

They're all unbelievably sh!te. Wouldn't even consider buying any of them.

HOWEVER,

The sh!tness of Portman Pulse is considerably less than the sh!tness of all the rest. So, reluctantly, that gets my vote.

What an embarrasment. I could fart a better tune than any of them.

I don't mind Portman Pulse, but they all sound like people have just recorded their ringtones :/ I'm gonna vote for no music.

I only feel like singing the blues when Ipswich win and Norwich lose.

But I would like to sing it more often.

@Phill is there any credible news on whether or not there will be an option for no music? if not can you voice the majority feeling to them for us :)

While im sure these songs make good music tracks and supporting local artists would be great none of the tracks sound very good for goal celebrations..and we would do better to support our local artists by playing their whole songs before the game kicks off instead....better for them and better for us to not have music played when a goal is scored.
when music is played at a goal alot of people don't feel the need to sing up coz theres allready a racket going on and just clap instead which means less people get in the mood for singing for the rest of the match
no music at a goal means more people compelled to sing at a height of emotion which brings them out of their shells and less embarresd to sing in the stands for the rest of the game.

bring back the disabled guy in his car who played the air horn that we had in 81, it was priceless!

i personally would prefer no music, but if i had the choice out of any song i would choose Duck Sauce-Barbra Streisand and change the barbra streisand bit to the name of the player. A bit like this:

Barmyarmy unfortunatly the idea is to have a local artist because the price for playing usual music is going up

I agree with everyone on here! 20 odd thousand or if its a big game and the other 10,000 manage to suddenly turn up cheering is much better than any song! If i had to chooose i would go with 'lets go to town'...... its the only one i wouldnt be embaressed to hear at portman road!
