Town Appeal on Red Card
Town Appeal on Red Card
Sunday, 9th Sep 2001 17:28

Town have asked referee Barry Knight to have a second look (actually it will be his first as the decision was given by a linesman sixty yards away) at the controversial incident which saw Matteo Sereni sent off yesterday afternoon.

Most newspaper reports today suggest that Sereni was hard done by after the incident where Robbie Savage crashed dramatically to the floor. TV pictures showed that the keeper raised no hand and did not headbutt the Welshman. With contact minimal the Italian must feel he is in with a good chance of having his red card overturned.

George Burley, who appeared to call Robbie Savage a cheat shortly after the incident, admits the keeper did touch the Leicester midfielder: "There was no doubt Sereni touched Savage, but he didn't raise his hands. I spoke to the referee afterwards and he admitted that he didn't see the incident - it was the linesman who gave it. We will appeal and the referee has agreed to look at the video."

On loan Town keeper James Pullen made his League debut yesterday as Blackpool lost 2-1 away at Oldham. Pullen is on a three month loan at Bloomfield Road.
