Carson Gets First Full Northern Ireland Call
Wednesday, 11th May 2011 12:24

Midfielder Josh Carson has received his first call-up to the Northern Ireland senior squad. The 17-year-old has previously won caps at U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Nigel Worthington, a regular visitor to Portman Road this season, has included the Antrim-born youngster in his party for the Carling Nations Cup games against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday 24th May and Wales on Friday 27th May, both at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Exiting Town defender Gareth McAuley is also in the squad.

Carson is also included in the Northern Ireland U21 squad for their European Championship qualifier against the Faroe Islands on Tuesday 31st May.

Defender Rory McKeown, who has been released by the Blues at the end of his academy scholarship, and striker Caolan Lavery, whose spell as a scholar has been extended until October due to his time out with a knee injury this term, are on standby for the U21 squad.

Well done Josh, until I saw him play I was Josh who? Him and Martin on the flanks is not a bad option.

Well done to the lad, considering that no one had even heard of him until a couple of months ago and he's already getting call ups for his country, good sign for our future and also Northern Ireland's.

Congratulations! - Really pleased, I actually think Carson could be just as good if not better that a certain Mr Wickham. His true colours will show next year and we will see him shine!

hopefully this will encourge other young players to the team, knowing that PJ is happy to give young players a chance........ Carson can thank PJ for getting this call up, without him playing regularly in the 1st team he would not have been picked.

Fully deserved, he will IMO go on to be a star and dan_ITFC55 you are spot on.
I know which of the two I would keep given the option.

Saw this coming. Northern Ireland are short of goalscorers these days. He is a massive star of the future for them.
