Town Linked With Move for Watford's Graham
Town Linked With Move for Watford's Graham
Tuesday, 17th May 2011 09:54

Town are set to make a £2 million offer for Watford frontman Danny Graham, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. Graham netted 27 goals in all competitions this season, including two against the Blues in a hugely impressive performance as the Hornets won 3-0 at Portman Road in March.

The 25-year-old has previously been linked with Newcastle United and QPR with a number of Premier League scouts watching him in action in the game against Town and throughout the season.

Gateshead-born Graham started his career with non-league Chester-Le-Street Town before moving on to Middlesbrough in 2003. During his time at the Riverside Graham spent spells on loan at Darlington, Derby, Leeds, Blackpool and Carlisle.

Seven goals in 11 games in the second half of the 2006/07 season led to a permanent switch to the Cumbrians that summer, the 6ft 1in tall striker signing a two-year deal.

In July 2009 at the end of that contract Graham joined Watford for a tribunal set fee of £200,000 rising to £550,000 after various clauses were met. Carlisle are also entitled to 15% of an profit made if the Hornets sell Graham, who scored 33 goals in 91 starts and 11 sub appearances during his time as a permanent member of staff at Brunton Park.

Graham signed an initial two-year deal at Vicarage Road, a contract he subsequently extended to the summer of 2012 with a further option for another season.

The one-time England U20 cap’s form this season in particular has caught the eye — he was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year - and overall for Watford he has scored 41 goals in 87 full appearances and 11 games from the bench.

Tweeting about reported interest in him last week, Graham said nothing had happened so far: “There is stuff in the press about moves, don’t believe it until I tell you all. I am under contract.”

Town manager Paul Jewell is very much in the market for a striker, having had an offer of £2.3 million for Doncaster’s Billy Sharp rejected last week, however, the Blues are likely to be outsiders for Graham's signature if Premier League clubs firm up their interest.

Living near Sheffield, Sharp has a reputation as a bit of a scumbag, ie attitude and the way he celebrates when he scores against old clubs (taunting fans).

Graham over Sharp any day.

I'm a very optimistic guy and always think we can win any game we play, however my experience of the transfer market means I'm always pesimistic this time of year. I'd love them both to sign but would bet £20 that we dont sign either of them.

Either of them being Billy Sharp and Danny Graham

I would love either Graham, Sharp or Maynard to be at ITFC next season. I think Sharp is the most likely but to be honest I don't think we will get any of them.
It is good to see PJ looking at the right type of player though

I very much doubt we have offered 3M for anybody, we had this all last summer and what did we get, forget the Champ and go in the lower leagues, more value for the limited amount of money we have, let's not forget we need 5-6 players as a minimum, what's the betting we end up with Priskin and Scotland, our credibility in the transfer market is at an all time low, what a shambles this club is.

Come on folks let's be a bit more positive. It is only media speculation. Be patient and wait and see you may be surprised.

suffolkpoker - I hope that's not true! Deary me a possible £4M for Sharp!

All: Remember last summer and the speculation surrounding Chopra? We wouldn't spend £4M then (rightly) and I can't see us doing it now. Sharp is not worth £4M!!!

Evans and Clegg had already decided not to give Keane any more money at the start of last season.

Dear me the amount of opinions flying around!

Whoever said spend £6m on Sharp and Graham players, I'm glad you're not in charge of our finances - we would have have been in administration more times than Pedro's dived in La LIga this season!

This transfer business is all rather simple in reality: the club knows the final price and is always looking to shave those pounds.

I'm just glad we've been linked to the likes of Sharp and Graham. COYB

Love all the intent and the being linked with these guys, but that at the moment is all it is, LINKED. It isn't a stampede or a gold rush !

Lay, what are you playing at? You ovbiously some sort of Norwich supporter with how you talk football, i say lets go for 4-3-3, nice attacking football, then when we go ahead, sit back and some other systems, since Connor's gone wide left, he's banged in the goals, and performed well, Sign Graham, Sharp, Coppinger, and i wouldn't say no to Nyron Nosworthy!!

Posted on the Beeb's site this morning, Graham quoted as saying "I'm contracted to Watford, I love it here, but I'm not going to lie or kid anyone, I want to play at the top level.

"If that happens, it happens. If not, and another Championship club comes in, I'm not interested.
