Released academy defender Rory McKeown has added to the Northern Ireland squad for their U21 European Championship qualifier against the Faroe Islands at the end of this month. The 18-year-old has been told he will not be offered a professional deal with the Blues now his two-year scholarship is at an end.

McKeown, who was initially on standby, joins midfielder Josh Carson in the squad for the match on Tuesday 31st May. The centre-half or full-back has previously been capped at U19 level but it is the first time he has been in an U21 squad.

Carson is also in the full Northern Ireland squad for their Carling Nations Cup games against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday 24th May and Wales on Friday 27th May, both at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, along with exiting Town defender Gareth McAuley.

perhaps another year? Was probably released because he was in his 2nd year scholarship, and we have enough young players for that position who are slightly better imo e.g. oconnor, brown, eastmond, whight
