Clegg: Swans Tried to Renegotiate Deal
Clegg: Swans Tried to Renegotiate Deal
Saturday, 25th Jun 2011 08:58

Town chief executive Simon Clegg says Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has been trying to renegotiate the terms of Tamás Priskin’s loan deal ever since the striker moved to the Liberty Stadium in March. The Blues have asked the Premier League to place a transfer embargo on the Swans after they failed to pay £300,000 — wages plus a £160,000 bonus due after their promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs - relating to the Hungarian’s loan spell.

Clegg said: “I am absolutely fuming — this is no way to do business. Mr Jenkins has been trying to renegotiate this deal virtually from the moment he signed it.

“There is no room for misinterpretation — the contract is completely unambiguous.”

Swansea’s failure to pay appears to relate to the knee injury Priskin suffered in training in late April which meant he was unable to add to his four sub appearances and one goal before the deal ended on May 31st.

But Clegg says this is no excuse: “Tamás went there a perfectly fit player and was injured while under their care. That’s football, but contracts must be honoured.

“There is a considerable sum of money involved but they are refusing to pay our invoices and have left me with no alternative but to report them. I expect the Premier League to move very quickly on this and instruct Swansea to pay up.”

Swansea chief Jenkins claimed to know nothing of the dispute in a statement last night.

Swansea do the patriotic thing and sod off to your own League of Wales, leaving the English league for English clubs. What the LOW is rubbish and has no money, oh I see money before supporting your own country's league is the reason...
