Clegg: Swans Tried to Renegotiate Deal
Clegg: Swans Tried to Renegotiate Deal
Saturday, 25th Jun 2011 08:58

Town chief executive Simon Clegg says Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has been trying to renegotiate the terms of Tamás Priskin’s loan deal ever since the striker moved to the Liberty Stadium in March. The Blues have asked the Premier League to place a transfer embargo on the Swans after they failed to pay £300,000 — wages plus a £160,000 bonus due after their promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs - relating to the Hungarian’s loan spell.

Clegg said: “I am absolutely fuming — this is no way to do business. Mr Jenkins has been trying to renegotiate this deal virtually from the moment he signed it.

“There is no room for misinterpretation — the contract is completely unambiguous.”

Swansea’s failure to pay appears to relate to the knee injury Priskin suffered in training in late April which meant he was unable to add to his four sub appearances and one goal before the deal ended on May 31st.

But Clegg says this is no excuse: “Tamás went there a perfectly fit player and was injured while under their care. That’s football, but contracts must be honoured.

“There is a considerable sum of money involved but they are refusing to pay our invoices and have left me with no alternative but to report them. I expect the Premier League to move very quickly on this and instruct Swansea to pay up.”

Swansea chief Jenkins claimed to know nothing of the dispute in a statement last night.

Unsurprising that Swansea would would welsh on a financial deal, 'welsh on' invented in the valleys.
Interesting to see whether premier league have got the bottle to make them pay up.
Clever bit of marketing by Cleggy to put Tamas in shop window though.

Just has a nosey on Planetswans. Interesting that most posts on there are assuming that they are in the wrong, that it's embarrassing publicity and that they should just pay up. Taffs also less than complementary about his performance there and complaining that £300,000 seems quite a lot to pay for 96 minutes on the pitch. Ho ho.

@kingchopra - "clues in the name ENGLISH Premier League" - but its not called the English Premier League the word 'English' doesn't or never has appeared in its title.

@Dissboyitfc - FYI Swansea were INVITED into the Southern league at around 1913 and were later FOUNDER MEMBERS of the Football League 3rd Division in 1920. The club has remained in the FL ever since until its promotion to the premier league last season - that is why they participate in english competition.

Cleggy, good luck with your meeting next week with Huw Jenkins who will be returning down the Swanee River (sounds better than the Gipping) 300,000 pounds lighter. Our first win without even kicking a ball.

I reckon Old Tefal head has every right to be getting his posh Y Fronts in a twist. If Swansea signed a deal then it should and will be honoured.

Must admit he has gone up in my estimation these past couple of mths after I think he initially struggled when 1st entered football and annoyed me commenting on stuff like the olympics when in my view he should have been concentrating on us especially as I think we were in the bottom 3 at the time. Hopefully he will be giving us another flash of that terrific forehead next to towns next signing in the not too distant future.........

It is funny how you can go off a team quickly. Swansea used to be in my region in a previous job, and it was one of the most introspective and isolated teams of people I have ever had the misfortune to manage. The earlier comments really do sit well with the mentality of the city. I am not joking.

I just can not think of who Swansea remind me of, a city in the middle of nowhere with a chip on their shoulder about a more successful neighbour. I was looking forward to the budgies getting suffed next season every week, but we can add the poor mans Barcelona to the queue.

@ ipswich123
1) the premiership is part of the english football league system so technically you cant be wrong saying English premier League.
2) they weren't invited they applied for the move as did every welsh club that moved

1) my point was that its official name has never been 'english premier league' as was suggested in the previous post
2)there is some historical debate whether some welsh clubs applied or were actually invited - point is they were accepted - more relevant is the fact that they were founder members of the FL Div 3 thus justifying their place in english competition today

*****Bongos' Finest Potato & Leek Soup******
Goes down a treat after a hard days trying to fall out with anybody in your path.

Enjoy...........

Prep time: 5 minutesCook time: 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS
425 large leeks, cut lengthwise, separate, clean. Freshly acquired Rhondda Leeks are preferable.
2 Tbsp butter (Lard Will Do)
2 cups pureed leeks
2 cups leek broth
2 lbs potatoes, peeled, diced into 1/2 inch pieces
Marjoram - dash
1/4 cup chopped dried leeks
2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme, or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Finest Rhondda Lard
Salt & Pepper
1 litre of White Lightning Cider
METHOD
1 Cook leeks in butter with salt and pepper in a medium sized sauce pan. Cover pan, cook on low heat for 10 minutes. Check often. Do not brown leeks! Browning will give leeks a burnt taste.
2 Add water, broth, cider and potatoes. Bring to a low simmer and cook for 20 minutes. Scoop about half of the soup mixture into a blender, puree and return to pan. Add lard, parsley, and thyme. Add a few dashes of mint sauce to taste. Add some freshly ground pepper, 197 teasppons of lard to taste.
