Delaney Out of Irish Squad
Delaney Out of Irish Squad
Sunday, 7th Aug 2011 15:44

Town defender Damien Delaney has been withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendly against Croatia in Dublin on Wednesday due to the ankle injury he suffered in Saturday's 3-0 win at Bristol City.

The 30-year-old appeared to turn his ankle just before half-time but carried on until the 63rd minute when he was replaced by Tommy Smith, who looks set to start Tuesday's Carling Cup against Northampton at Portman Road.

Aston Villa centre-half Ciaran Clark has replaced Delaney, who has previously won five full caps. Town target Keith Andrews has also pulled out of the squad.

In addition to Delaney, Town will be without David Stockdale, who has been called up by England, Tamás Priskin, who will be with Hungary, and Josh Carson, who will be in action for the Northern Irish U21s for the Cobblers game.

Is Cropper available on Tuesday? Give him his debut–if only for the headlines if we lose.

What i'm trying to say Blues is, what are the consequences of Delaney's injury for us? As I'm sure no one really cares to much about Ireland.

I just find the wording of the title and article geared to the fortunes of Ireland and not to Ipswich: it's kind of odd I reckon.

delaney aint good enough for irish first team sqaud sorry!
he was well releived when the linesman put his flag up for bristol citys offside goal!
last season grant holt done him up good and propa in both derby games! for me he is back up for new centre back that PJ is surely lining up to bring in!
WO WO WO for you nuggets that are thinking its only them two games delaney got shown up! i say they are the games you need to show your metal and if we are striving to go up you need big performances in big games!
i think delaney is a good CB but i still have a question mark against him against top championship players let alone INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS.

hopefully he will continue like yesterday and help clean sheets.
i dont think the irish team (defence in particular) is that good and the guy who used to play for man city now villa is an absolute donkey and i would say delaney would deserve a run in the team over him (memory loss badly) someone remind me

Well I would say, churchmans, that Delaney is better at playing football than you are on commenting on it based on your appalling sentence construction, grammar and spelling.
