Jewell: Exits Likely
Jewell: Exits Likely
Friday, 26th Aug 2011 10:31

Blues boss Paul Jewell says that with so many new players coming into the club, exits are inevitable. Town are particularly overloaded with strikers with Tamás Priskin and Jason Scotland appearing amongst the favourites to move on.

Jewell said: “With us bring so many players in, there will be players that are available, if it suits us and it suits the players. But my phone hasn’t rung.

“It’s always the way that you can be overloaded in certain areas. In terms of strikers, we’ve got Tamás, we’ve got Duke, we’ve got Chops, now we’ve got Daryl Murphy, we’ve got Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who can play up there, and Jason Scotland.

“We probably have got too many strikers, although I think Joe Royle once said you can’t have too many strikers.

“There might well be players leaving, on loan or permanently, I honestly don’t know. But the only players who aren’t under consideration at the moment are Lee Martin and Tommy Smith because they’re suspended.”

Priskin appears unlikely to move on in the short-term having suffered a recurrence of the injury which curtailed his 2010/11: “Tamás hurt his knee in training on Friday. He had that knee injury when he was on loan at Swansea and missed a couple of games in the summer with Hungary. He’s training with the kids trying to get his fitness back. He’s here but he’s not 100% fit yet.”

Jaime Peters and Shane O’Connor have also been in training with the youngsters, a further indication that the duo aren’t in Jewell’s plans. Lee Martin has joined them in recent days but as a result of the Blues’ boss’s annoyance at his disciplinary issues following his red card at Peterborough.

Jewell says there have been no further developments regarding Portsmouth target Grant Leadbitter, who he confirmed will continue to skipper the side: “I’ve heard the rumours about Grant Leadbitter but the last chat I had with the owner about Grant was that we were hoping to extend his contract.

“There’s been a lot of mumbling about Grant. I don’t want it to go on and on, that’s the only thing I’ve said to Grant and he’s of the same ilk.

“But there have to be people willing to buy him or buy anybody before we let anybody go. I’m not here thinking that I’ve got to let players go out. However, I think that if I were a player on the fringes here, as great a club as this is, I’d still want to be playing football somewhere.”

Top of my list of exits would be Leadbitter closely followed by Scotland,Peters,JET,Drury,Smith, Delaney and Hyam.Don't agree with some posts that Priskin and Kennedy should be on the way out.

Why the obsession with Peters? Decent servant, yes. Good enough, no.
People talk about his pace but all I've seen in recent years is a man who's allowed to run 20 yards by the opposition and when confronted by a full-back just outside the area, he opts to pass the ball back.
Jamie Peters has become the best full-back/winger at the club simply by not playing.
In the same way that some people still think Alan Curbishley is considered a great choice as manager just because he hasn't had a job (for countless years).
As for Leadbitter, I don't think he's a captain and I do think we should cash in.

Jaime Peters has, on occasions, been our best player, covering every blade of grass. Agree he should be given a chance in place of Martin. O,Connor and Hyam should also be given a chance, even if only from the bench. All 3 have sshown what they can do, and am sure if given a decent chance, would not disappoint.

Victory - Agree re Feeney and Jalal - spoke to a Cherries supporter this week about them .... Peters has not progressed and think falls into that area along with O Connor that we need abit more physical presence - yes you can be a small player up front if you have pace or in midfield with bags of skill but I just think he is too slight - Jewel knows we have been average - at best - for past 3-4 years and it is time we cleared house - no room for sentiment and probably fairer to the likes of Peters to let him go to another club - KENNEDY should def stay for abit - need him around ....Hyam looked good last year and him and Murray be good on loan - We have alot of left sided players and not sure O Connor fits in

Seems to have gone a bit mad with bringing in strikers when the problem we have is defending. Sonko should be a good acquisition but don't think we really needed Murphy before trying some of the other options we have up front and it's a quality defensive midfielder we need more than Jimmy B who might have been worth a one year contract at most.

Smithy - Think you're being a bit harsh on Ainsley as he's so young. Not an ideal defence to be making a debut in? village_blue - agree on Priskin but JET? How many games has he played for us? I think he's obviously got the potential to be a game changer and will get better as he settles in.

Perhaps keeping Leadbitter as captain and the mention of contract talks are a bluff to make sure we get full whack when we sell him next week?

Where does that line say that Leadbitter will continue to captain the side? Obviously those words could have been ommitted from the paragraph, but the last part says more about him being moved on than staying and retaining the captains armband. Well hopefully I've read between the correct lines there!!!

It's a good thing you will be back at school soon. Reality is not reflected in Championship Manager! Who knows what the contractual value of a player is? A transfer has a fundamental affect on an employee and his family, they don't just move at the push of a button. As for your obsession with buying certain players from Bournemouth or Rotherham just accept that someone like PJ, who has probably been managing longer than you have been alive, knows more about what his squad needs.

Finally some of the suggested transfers out are ludicrous - Healy is a solid squad player, Drury has only recently joined the club and looks promising, and Kennedy is an excellent pro who has never let us down.

Let's stay realistic shall we?

I think it is fair to say that with Jewell selecting, and continuing with Leadbitter as Captain - his judgement HAS to be questioned.
This player is obviously not up to it, as is continually being proved - therefore Jewell's ability, as a Manager, has to be questioned.

Certainly hope he can do something with this squad, as it is TODAY, - but I still have serious reservations, as to his ability to do so.
