Cresswell to Get New Deal
Cresswell to Get New Deal
Thursday, 20th Oct 2011 11:37

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that left-back Aaron Cresswell is set to be offered a new contract. The 21-year-old has made a huge impression since joining the Blues from Tranmere in the summer when he signed a three-year deal.

Jewell said: "He came in at the start of the season from Tranmere and I told him to prove himself and then we would have a look at his deal.

"He's done great, there's no doubt about that, but I don't want him to get comfortable. We want to reward him because he's done well. He's a great lad and he loves it here.

"We're just looking to give him something slightly improved and I think Cressy has earned the right to have a pay rise."

A tribunal recently set the compensation due to Tranmere for the Liverpool-born full-back at an initial £240,000 rising to £520,000 after various milestone clauses.

Wages have nothing to do with compensation - ipswich will have topped any offer made by anyone else to get him in the first place. And his low wage will be nothing in comparison to the peanuts Lavery will have been offered. Amazing a couple of wins and everyone is pro PJ a couple of losses and everything will be back to normal and negative again with never a reality check or balance inbetween.

If this is truly unsolicited and proactive by the club this is a very classy and honourable move. Hopefuly also a good sign for our other younsters.

pro pj allways even peterbourgh ,would like some younger players but look at signings all done well so far. We are deffinatly play off contenders with a chance of top 2. It is very tight top half ,we will go through bad runs but top 6 i think.
If we had had one diffrent result we would be top now!

brilliant.. well deserved.. like pj said hope he doesnt get comfortable now, but i dont think this will happen. He looks like hes loving every minute playing for us! Andrews has to be the main priority now.

Do not want to make an issue of this but the size of contract is taken into account when working out the compensation.

If I was the Tranmere Chairmen I would be a very unhappy man at the moment.

Luckily ITFC if they think about it do have a cop out

Tractorbreezer: I agree with you but if this is a solicited move its nice to see Town being a bit ruthless at last, other clubs do it why not us?. Got to look after number 1 after all. Anyway Cresswell has been a revelation and fully deserves a pay rise and yes, a 5 year deal would be great, because after 3 years we might still be where we are and he could go to a Prem Club for nothing or at least a knock down fee because his contract is nearly up.

It's only October! I wish my boss would have offered me a payrise 3 months into my new job!

That aside, it's probably a good move as he's an excellent signing. Let's hope he doesn't blow it all on a car and follow the lead of some senior players down to Ipswich nick!

This guy really is a fantastic little player he gives his all for 90 minutes+. He is good going forward, solid in the tackle and has a fantastic left foot. I was so excited when we signed this type of player and he is proving me right that we need to recruit young, hungry lower league players with a point to prove.

Good news, and I hope the new contract is a 4 or 5 year one rather than just a pay rise on the existing 3 year contract.

Sonko has earned a better deal too I think, at least a 2 or 3 year contract on existing wages. We do not want him to leave for free next summer!

Great buy, PJ must get him on long term contract, not many class English left backs about this lad could go on to play for England, hope it is with ITFC.

What a breath of fresh air he has been since his arrival. He works his arse off, defends well and is not scared of taking people on either. If he keeps wirking hard and playing week in week out he has a bright future to look forward to.

He is an absolutly outstanding player, one I hope we can hang on to for many years to come. I hope jet isn't on high wages so he can really see cressie as an example of pj's dealing with players. You get what you deserve!!! If Sonko has a few more good games he also deserves a new contract. I trust pj to make the right decisions regarding the leadbitter and lavery dealings.
