Doncaster Write to Thank Town Fans
Doncaster Write to Thank Town Fans
Tuesday, 8th Nov 2011 14:59

Doncaster Rovers have written an official letter to Town thanking fans for the support given to striker Billy Sharp during Saturday’s game. The 25-year-old, whose new-born son Luey died a week ago, was applauded by home supporters after he scored his side’s second goal and when he was substituted during the second half.

Dave Morris, the chief executive of the South Yorkshire club, wrote to his Town counterpart Simon Clegg, saying: "I would like to say how much we appreciate your magnificent fans and the way they responded to our team, and in particular Billy Sharp.

"Their behaviour and attitude was an absolute credit to football and to your club."

Irishtim - you wouldn't think that sometimes on here mate even last season people were slagging off sharp for the way he celebrated against us when he got a brace . Like siamese twins two faced on here (not everyone though).

Very nice to hear. Contrary to what Bill Shankley famously stated and sometimes hard to believe but there is more to life than football!

Well done our supporters and for Donny to recognise that.

Was so proud to be a part of that moment. It brought tears to my eyes ... especially the way Billy responded to the applause. And yes, thank you to Donny for acknowledging how special it was.

It goes to show you that some things surpass petty football football differences and a bit of humanity shines through, well done town fans.

Gypo, what are u talking about, entirely different situation, thats the point we can put aside football when something happens to a human being whether he be footballer or not, amazingly crass comment.

That spontaneous applause from all 4 stands was one magnificent moment. All the more so for happening when we went 2 goals down against a lowly side for the second game in a row.

It was completely the right thing to do and was pleased to be there to join in. Even though we were being thrashed by a lowly team - it was great to see ITFC fans joining together to offer their support.

Best wishes to Billy and his partner.

A real top class football moment, never to be forgotten . Just glad it happened at PR and glad I was there not only to witness it, but mainly to be a part of it... just glad it was truly respected by Billy Sharp and Doncaster FC. Just a pity the national press didn't give it more publicity like the Tevez and Terry affairs ! Now sign Sharp up Marcus, as if he can play like that last week how good will he be when he is really concentrating on his football !!

For anyone who hasn't seen Billy's interview after Saturday's game, go now. You really get a sense of how touched grateful he was for the applause. I have massive respect for him, which he completely deserves.

It was great to be a part of it and I had a lump in my throat having two youngsters and can only imagine the pain he is going through. There was a brief moment when he didn't know how to react, but that's natural when all you get is abuse when away from home. A truly classy and touching moment on a day otherwise to forget at PR.

Know we are all different but hope Chops uses this as inspiration and perspective for his troubles.
