Doncaster Write to Thank Town Fans
Doncaster Write to Thank Town Fans

Doncaster Rovers have written an official letter to Town thanking fans for the support given to striker Billy Sharp during Saturday’s game. The 25-year-old, whose new-born son Luey died a week ago, was applauded by home supporters after he scored his side’s second goal and when he was substituted during the second half.

Dave Morris, the chief executive of the South Yorkshire club, wrote to his Town counterpart Simon Clegg, saying: "I would like to say how much we appreciate your magnificent fans and the way they responded to our team, and in particular Billy Sharp.

"Their behaviour and attitude was an absolute credit to football and to your club."

Some good came out of the game...took us fans to do what the team failed (to do)...

Classy act indeed!

I thought it was more or less just the Sir Bob stand and that end corner of the Brittainia but I am told it was in fact the whole ground including the south stand?

Well done all.

Gypo, what an absolute clown you are! I read comments like yours and it makes me think what people like you are on.

He was appreciated by town fans for non footballing reasons, for dealing with something that I dont even want to think of ever happening to me.

Have a little think before write your stupidly unthought through comments.

Just to let you know that this has been noticed up here by a quite a few fellow Norwich fans. Local rivalry aside for a few moments - well done Ipswich Town fans.

"Snip" Just a pity the national press didn't give it more publicity like the Tevez and Terry affairs ! "Snip"

It was recognised in the Daily Express. Their football journalist Mick Dennis reported our (Ipswich fans) reaction and support to Billy Sharp. In fact, it goes to show how well our support to Billy Sharp was taken as Mick Dennis is a Norwich fan - something he also mentioned in his report but wished to put to one side in recognition of Town fans on this occasion. Fair play.

I was there on Saturday. Our reaction particularly when he was substituted put a couple of "shivers" down my spine. Very, very proud to be a Town fan.

Yes, a wonderful moment - I just LOVE this kind of spontaneous, unplanned gesture.

We have every reason to be proud - even the kids I teach (at a school near Nottingham) have been saying, "credit to your fans sir..."

It really does restore a bit of faith in the REAL heart of our game doesn't it? Not the money, not the sponsors, not even the players, but the true hardcore fans...

Proud to be Blue...

"including the south stand? "

Thats a pretty disrespectful comment about your fellow supporters in the South Stand, many of whom, including myself were moved to applaud Billy Sharp's goal in tribute to him and his little boy.
