Portsmouth Set to Hold Player Sales Talks
Portsmouth Set to Hold Player Sales Talks
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012 11:28

Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton says he is expecting to hold talks with chief executive David Lampitt regarding player sales with Pompey subject to a winding up order over unpaid PAYE totalling £1.6 million. Last week, the Blues made a bid believed to be £1 million for Jason Pearce and Joel Ward (pictured) with a second offer appearing certain in the next few days if one hasn't already been lodged since Saturday.

Appleton, who admitted he knew nothing about the winding up order until seeing weekend newspaper reports, says he anticipates speaking with Lampitt regarding the sale of players: “I’m expecting that conversation to come now, having been told the news. If that’s the case we have to deal with it and we’ll deal with it and then see where we are."

Over the weekend there were reports that Leicester had joined Town in chasing Pearce and Ward, but the Pompey boss says he’s not aware of any approach from the Foxes so far: ”I’ve not heard anything but they have a few quid and they seem to be in for everyone.

“It wouldn’t surprise me in any way, shape or form if they did come knocking for them in the coming days.

“It’s not welcome but I could understand clubs thinking there’s an opportunity to pick up players. We’re in financial difficulties.”

In addition to the Blues’ move for Pearce and Ward, Newcastle United have been linked with Portsmouth keeper Stephen Henderson.

Is there any possibility Portsmouth could be docked points? if so that may help us come the end of the season.

I dont know why we'd want / need to offer 1.6+ for them. In their situation offer the same again and they pretty much have to take it.

So now the playoffs are only 15 points away wahheyyy! Hope we don't disappear off the radar like Wimbledon, think we should spend some of that profit we got for Connery wickham since him and Walters left we are loosing our best players fast get these contracts sorted out so the players are dedicated to this club, spend abit on a few more and we can all relax for the second half of the season.

PANIC, PANICK, throw all your money Mr Evans at it, pay 'em 10 million quid - whats 10 million eh, peanuts. Buy now, b*gger the money, no not tomorrow, forget checking the contract, just buy 'em, doesnt matter, they'll be perfect or us. So what if Mr. Hindsight Fan tells you in 4 weeks that you shouldnt have spent all that money so fast and rushed into panick buying, you need to be more agressive, you dont know much about business do you Mr. Evans? Listen to your 'fans'. They pay you £30 a week (well some weeks they warm their armchairs up when its too cold or far to travel, but we'll let them off that), so for that price they have every right to spend your money, dont they? Come on cough up or they'll continue to huff and puff on our forums complaining they wont renew their season ticket (although I suspect they will do anyway). Give us some rest, please.
