Palace Renew Interest in Delaney
Palace Renew Interest in Delaney
Thursday, 26th Jan 2012 22:25

TWTD understands that Crystal Palace have renewed their interest in Town defender Damien Delaney. The Eagles targeted the 30-year-old centre-half a year ago as part of a joint bid along with former skipper David Norris.

The Blues rebuffed that offer and the Irish international subsequently signed a new contract until June 2013.

This time around Town may be more willing to sell with two central defenders amongst the recently lodged bids, Portsmouth’s Jason Pearce and Falkirk’s Murray Wallace.

The Cork-born defender, who joined the Blues from QPR in 2009, has been in and out of the Town side this season, partly due to a foot injury which required surgery before Christmas.

Palace valued Delaney at £350,000 when they made their approach last year and Town may be willing to accept a similar figure, as long as they land at least one central defensive target before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

WE need to have replacement first as it could come back to hurt us. On his day he aint the worst but liable to make errors. Dont sell until we have what we need brought in.

On an optimistic note; we won't get anyone in.

If we sign the players we are linked with and manage to get a fee for Delaney we are absolutely laughing and Pauls Jewells will be hailed an amazing manager!

Swap for David Wright or Darren Ambrose.

Another player I would be very happy to see off the wage bill, although, i'd rather wait until we have a few more central defenders in place first.

All depends on what fee can be agreed. I mean how much do we have to pay Palace to take him?

Sums up why the January transfer window is so useless. Delaney's a player who we should probably move on, but can't until we have replacements from another club... who also probably need replacements too!! Such an unbelievably awful system.

Not shown well this season, but then again who has??

Formed a strong partnership with G Mac last season, so needs a strong right CD alongside him to show his best form. We don't have that strong partner for him now, perhaps why he's struggled of late.

Wouldn't sell him though as we're so short of CD's, and if we're bringing all kids in then we'll need some experience at the back.

Depends if we replace. Delaney did well next to McAuley, but has been injury prone and poor since. Don't sell unless we replace - we need TWO CB's as it is!

Bluearmy4life... reference to our transfer business, how do you know how negotiations are going? only what you read on here and the newspapers. Delaney, poor defender whos shortcomings have been exposed even more since mccauley left, not only is his defending poor his distribution is woeful, how often did we see delaney with time, pump the ball forward with no meaning and give possession away ? he has some ability ( liability is more accurate ) get rid i say , especially as i do believe we will have a new face or two in the building very soon... Sloppy defender, Everytime he plays i think omg another defeat. Sell him now and just get these players in that we need. There are some good defenders out there. Just get players in that are focused for 90 mins. Delaney just switches off and thats why we give away some sloppy goals.

Pj maybe this is one player we wont have a go at you for selling????

Can't see him being first choice in the future. A high wage earner who has been been very disappointing this season. A move would be best for all parties (provided we could bring someone in first!)
