Town Confirm Stevenson Signing Saturday, 28th Jan 2012 21:01
Town have confirmed that Hearts midfielder Ryan Stevenson is joining the Blues with the move set to be formalised on Monday. As reported this morning, the 27-year-old Scot was at Portman Road today for talks and a medical after the Blues had an offer accepted on Friday.
Stevenson has put pen to paper on a contract which we understand to be an 18-month deal plus an option for a further season but with the paperwork yet to be cleared. He will make his debut against West Ham on Tuesday as long as international clearance comes through before midday on Monday.
Town are believed to have paid Hearts £50,000 with the Stevenson’s Tynecastle deal up at the end of the season and with him refusing to play due to a payment dispute.
Irvine-born Stevenson played youth football with Ayr United and Chelsea, staying in the same apartment block as John Terry when making regular trips south to train with the Premier League side.
In 2002 he moved on to St Johnstone where he made the breakthrough into first team football, before returning to Ayr United, initially on loan, in 2006.
The 5ft 11in tall midfielder, who can also play up front, moved to Hearts for an undisclosed fee in February 2010 and since then has made 47 starts and 20 sub appearances, scoring 11 goals. His contract is up at the end of June.
In December, after Hearts failed to pay their players’ wages, he asked for his contract to be terminated. This was refused but he told the club he wouldn’t play or train until he had been paid, citing stress on his unborn child amongst the reasons for his decision.
A Scotland call-up in November but without winning a cap, much-tattooed Stevenson was linked with Bristol City last month, while League Two Crawley had a bid rebuffed a week ago.

You say you don't know anything about the player and then write him off before he even kicks a ball just because he doesn't cost much. Jon Walters was £150,000 from Chester!!
casanovacrow - I don't know enough about the cash flow issue at Hearts. If Marius Žaliūkas isn't being paid either, we should get in there! Very good deal done here by Jewell. Drury and Cresswell have both paid off, so will Stevenson.
Never heard of him but sounds like a good player who wants to prove a point. Good bit of business Jewell 50k. Hope he proves to be a bargain. Just defenders now!!
Another pointless signing : I guess we were down to our last half-dozen talentless central midfielders, so needed to add another. I assume we will be playing them all and not bothering with any defenders.
Oh well, we lasted a while before the negativity descended. I have to admit to being a tad concerned myself. Smith versus Tevez on Tuesday doesn't bode well. We do need the Portsmouth deals done.
Good..... Welcome to PR Mr Stevenson and hopefully prove wrong the moaners and doubters out there who been so negative........... Guarantee if he scores the winner or puts the perfect pass for the winning goal they all be saying 'what a buy'. Well at 50k he is a snip and costs 20-30 times less to some of the players that have been bought in in last few years who haven't performed to expectations so what is there to lose
Getting him from Hearts who are skint and looking for 3 from Portsmouth who are bust- sounds like 'dog eat dog' of business world...hope this works out ME.
I havent posted for a while. But always read. However, what does prompt me from time is the cretin that is daleyitfc. From the utterly ridiculous avatar, I hope it isnt you, to the tripe he writes.
The tattoos give him character, much needed at our club right now! marcus139 - you should definately write more. hunty21 - in total agreement with you wrightyblue - oh dear, its started again. Hope you will soon be writing Pearce Rules!
