Edwards Agrees New Deal
Edwards Agrees New Deal
Thursday, 15th Mar 2012 06:54

Skipper Carlos Edwards has agreed to sign his new contract with the Blues. TWTD revealed that the 33-year-old had been offered new terms last Thursday.

The new deal will see the Trinidad and Tobago international remain at the club until at least the end of next season, while there is an option for a second year which will be triggered after the midfielder-turned-right-back makes a set number of league appearances.

The summer of 2009 £1.35 million signing from Sunderland is understood to have taken a significant cut in pay from his previous deal with Town looking to reduce their overall wage bill with the Financial Fair Play rules being introduced next season.

Chief executive Simon Clegg says talks have gone well with the ex-Luton and Wrexham man: "We have had good dialogue with Carlos over the last few weeks and I'm delighted to confirm that we have agreed terms with him over a deal for next season."

Meanwhile, Blues boss Paul Jewell was the Town champion at yesterday’s club golf day at Hintlesham. Damien Delaney won the prize for the longest drive.

Amongst the Blues players and coaching staff present and past playing alongside the club's corporate supporters were Tommy Smith, Aaron Cresswell, Daryl Murphy, Lee Bowyer, Alex McCarthy, Chris Hutchings, Sean McCarthy, Andy Liddell, Russell Osman, John Wark, Charlie Woods, Matt Holland, Bryan Hamilton and Geraint Williams.

@DissBoy & Blue Lady. Fair comments from you both. We still need a natural right back, but Carlos has had a decent 2nd Half to the season and has shown commitment to want to stay at ITFC by taking a paycut (although lets be fair we would all be clicking our heels with delight for his weekly wage - even at the new rate!!) - Less of the negativity from soem of you moaners @33 he still has pace.

Carlos is a credit to himself and the game, he has had his problems of the field but this has never affected his game, even when he makes a mistake on the pitch his head never drops just gets on with his game.
As others have said he is never injured the other players seem to respect him as captain, good luck to him. Hope Tommy Smith is next to get new contract.

This is good news and will help to settle things down. Will also give us an opportunity to develop his potential successor over the next couple of seasons.

Good news has been our most consistent player this season always gives his all and as far as I am concerned is one of best full backs in league.

I think this is good news- I actually think that I could well vote for him as player of the season - Now lets get the other contracts sorted so that we can go into the summer with only minor tweaks to the squad needed - looking forward to giving the posh some payback - COYB !!

Versatile players like Carlos are important to any squad when injuries and suspensions come knocking. Pleased he's here for at least another year.
