Deadline Day Passes Quietly
Deadline Day Passes Quietly
Thursday, 22nd Mar 2012 16:57

Loan deadline day passed quietly at Portman Road with no moves in or out of Town.

Crisis club Portsmouth appear to have been in a strong enough position to hold on to the remaining members of their squad, including Joel Ward, who held talks with Blues boss Paul Jewell on Sunday, and even added Manchester City youngsters Luca Scapuzzi and Karim Rekik on loan.

Last night, Jewell said that Town are focusing on the long-term and it may well be that Ward - and perhaps team-mate Jason Pearce, who was a target in January - could be viewed as part of the Blues' summer business.

The availability of either player is likely to depend on Portsmouth's divisional status and whether Pompey's financial situation has been resolved at that point.

The passing of the deadline means Town will finish the season with only two experienced keepers - Arran Lee-Barrett and Richard Wright - with Alex McCarthy returning to Reading on April 11th.

Meanwhile, it's emerged that Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba's brother is a schoolboy with the Town Academy. The 13-year-old lives in London and spends a couple of days a week at the club. Muamba senior is continuing his recovery in hospital after collapsing in the Trotters' FA Cup tie at Tottenham on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Town manager Paul Jewell and U18s coach Russell Osman are amongst those taking part in June's Addison Lee Footballers’ Golf Classic at Spain's La Manga Club.

Forget about Portsmouth players, they had the chance for a better future but rejected it, If we have Ipswich Scouts? then move on, and be better at it!

We don't need any Portsmouth rejects, if they were not in this mire, we would not consider any of their players worthy of playing for ITFC

First the banks and now this. So Pompey bring in more loan signings than we did. What the hell goes on? The (footballing) world has gone mad. Even a blind man can see we need to strengthen - whatever the Fifa Fair Play rules say. We are on a great run, but looking at next year, additions are required. Yes, it all depends on who stays and goes - yes, it depends on budget / fair play rules et al, but we need a keeper, a centre half (at least one) it looks like Edwards is a nailed on RB (non-RB) and Scotland - not in the squad yesterday - is possibly on his way out. Leadbitter? Who knows. Bullard / Bowyer? The Drury's, the Hyam's, the Stevensons, the JET's - they seem to be the way forward. But - if it were my money / my club (and to a certain degree it is!!!) - I'd say - spend on a keeper and a 25 goal a year striker.

I agree with Keaneish. We were comfortably dominating the game in the second half but with only a one goal lead. No reason to tinker with things under the circumstances.

Slowerball Scotland was injured.... we all know we need to strengthrlen but not with loans. as for subs some of our posters footballing knowledge IS incredible. Why substitute for the sake of it, look at Burnley three, subs and still looked awful. I think PJ used to make some poor decisions but recently been spot on.

Could you imagine the comments about Paul Jewell's capabilities, if he had made a substitution and we'd let in one or two goals. Give the guy a break !

I think we all had this feeling last year 'lets build in the summer' well i hope we dont have another wasted frustrating season with the only highlight is the ever increasing BS out of clegg's mouth about why players did not sign and then ram down our throats the massive investment in the club. Every thing looks ok now re. relegation but surely it is time to start signing some quality required players (considering this massive investment) and pushing for the premier league.

We do not need to spend on a keeper. We have our own keeper in Cody Cropper under 20 and under 23 keeper for the USA.played in the Milk cup came third over all kept clean sheet in two game's ,conceded one against Mexico but earned a draw.play's in the Ipswich reserves do not think he was in a losing team. He would probably be in town's line up if he had not sustained an injury that needed surgery. But i believe he is coming back to fitness as stated by Paul Jewell.Time to give him his chance.I have no doubts he will be our next number one keeper sooner than later/

On PJ's subs ...Saints game subs got us back into it and even scored ,Hull game subs turned the game around ,Burnley no need for subs .Give the man some credit when its due .
And stop going on about Drury and Hyam as if they are the only reason we started winning ,Martins move into the middle and Chops form has been vital in the turn around and the defence playing better as a unit .Drury and Hyam have done very well but it is a squad system and at the moment it is working ,lets be happy .

I just wish they would sign for someone so we can stop the constant drivel about them coming to PR which won't happen.

Regarding the lack of signings - one word, relieved! Keaneish, I agree with your comments (but not your name!). Red Lady I like the red heart but what is the other bit? Mind you I always liked the red wine! COYB
