Leeds Faltering in Race for Ward
Leeds Faltering in Race for Ward
Saturday, 19th May 2012 10:31

Leeds United’s failure to find the cash in order to sign Blues target Joe Ward is reported to be close scuppering the chances of the Whites landing the Portsmouth defender or midfielder. Neil Warnock’s club were believed to be heading the race having held talks with the 22-year-old soon after signing his former Pompey team-mate and close friend Jason Pearce.

Long-term admirers Town, Burnley and Crystal Palace are also all believed to have agreed a fee with Portsmouth’s administrator, variously claimed to be somewhere between £400,000 and £450,000.

Now Blackpool — who could be a Premier League side after today's Championship play-off final — are said to have submitted a written offer, while Sheffield Wednesday are also showing interest.

Ward is understood to be set to speak with the Seasiders and the Owls with his decision likely to be made at some point this week.

Arnie, you could not be more wrong with leeds and admin.we make profit every yr since 2007 with this yr being £4.5 mill, bates spent over £7mill of leeds own money on facility's at elland rd last season.all reports saying he is talking to all clubs interested before making his mind up and this report biast to Ipswich reads it as struggling to pay money up front!!!we were the only club that could pay for pierce up front and with club having turnover this ur of £34mill that would not be a problem.ward is seeing who can offer the most, leeds have a wage budget and 1 reason they are well in black.players in champ are far too greedy,

Would love to see us sign him - but as others point out, if Blackpool go up and they want him still - he's go there. After that, it will be the team who offer the most, which is unlikely to be us.

Let him bugger off. If he wanted to be at portman road he already would be. Lets move on. Get players who want to wear the ipswich jersey with pride & be succesful.

The problem is that he doesn't fill any of the obvious gaps in the squad. Useful to have? Maybe, but surely we have other priorities. I won't be losing any sleep worrying about whether he signs or not.

This one is making me lose the will to live!!! I wont be devastated if he chooses someone else although it would be nice if we actually signed some players we go after!!! Why do we always get to a point in transfers before it always goes tits up??!
Even players already at the club choose to see out their contracts and buggar off!! Thers somthing wrong somewhere.

If we get him, he better be good there has been loads of hype about him and I can see him being terrible if we get him! Still hope we do though, loads of clubs want him so hopefully he'd be good for us next season! COYB! <3

He sounds like yer bog standard utility player. Every team needs one. But often they are the unsung hero's in a team, doing the mundane, but essential part of the game.

He would fit in well at PR and the new vibrant young team Jewell will be putting together over the summer. I hope he decides to join us.

I can't believe that we are still talking about this average player, who does not want to play for the club.

I hope he signs for someone else and quickly.
