Clegg: Torch Relay Special Experience
Clegg: Torch Relay Special Experience
Thursday, 21st Jun 2012 17:53

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has hailed running a leg of the Olympic torch relay in Keswick in the Lake District earlier today as an “almost spiritual experience”.

Prior to joining Town in 2009, Clegg spent 20 years and 12 summer and winter Games with the British Olympic Association as deputy general secretary and then chief executive and for six years led the political and media campaign to bring the Games to London.

Clegg, who hadn't previously run with the torch at any previous Games, said: “This was a particularly special almost spiritual experience for me.

"The Olympic flame is highly symbolic and I’m proud that the project that we started in 1997 has brought communities together throughout the UK to celebrate this ‘once in a generation’ experience.

“The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London will be an awesome display of physical ability and will have a lasting impact on so many people who will be directly or indirectly involved.”

Clegg will be an official attaché for the Pacific island of Guam during London 2012.

I hope all this isn't a distraction from running ITFC. I have never been convinced of bringing an Olympics man in to run our football club.

Whoopie Doo! If he love athletics that much then perhaps he should think about returning to it and ITFC empolying a football man. I am sick of us NEVER getting our priority signings and it shows badly on the club that we get snubbed for Brighton and Hull!

Brighton and Hove Albion have enjoyed an almost spiritual experience this week - they have signed a decent goalkeeper.
The same Brighton who were playing in front of 3000 fans at a stadium 70 miles away from their town at roughly the same time Ipswich were playing in front of 26000 in the Premiership.

in front of 3,000

Why the criticism. Town have signed two decent youn players so far and have announced the intention to sign 3-4 more. We're not doing that badly.

I have no issue with the guy running with the torch - great job at last Olympics.

However, as I said earlier - in my opinion - Clegg has done a poor job for us and can only hope he is also working on player contracts and a number of transfers. So far this Summer we have bought one player - who is injured. Not great to date.

have finally realised that most people on here are just flat out stupid.....bitching about Clegg this Clegg that, Clegg should focus on Town not the Olympic Torch.....a few things come to mind...
1. The Olympics IS the greatest sporting event in the World, it is an honour to carry the torch
2. You may or may not have noticed the Euros are currently going on so there is LITTLE to NO transfer activity
3. It is mid-June and most teams, chairman, execs,, players are on holiday until the start of July
4. we are NOT the team we were in the 80's, so accept we are a team that is in the top 50 of english soccer
5. We are a business, we make business decisions, and you don't just PAY someone WHAT they want if it does not fit into your financial structure, we did that with Finidi and Sereni and went bust, you learn by stupid mistakes

MarcusSg.

You have no idea of their quality or otherwise, its not who you sign but how good are they and did you get a good deal for them.

Last summer we signed loads of dross. The summer before we failed to get all our first choices.

Clegg and co' must be the butt of footall league jokes.

DiamondGeezer, yep cant argue with Ellington on a two year deal, his track record of 4 goals in 4 years made him a sure fire success.
