Chambers: I'm Only Talking to One Club
Chambers: I'm Only Talking to One Club
Thursday, 5th Jul 2012 08:46

Town target Luke Chambers has confirmed that he has only been in talks with one club since his Nottingham Forest contract having came to an end last Saturday. Chambers was at Portman Road for talks, a medical and the traditional tour of the stadium and training facilities on Tuesday but is yet to formally agree to join the Blues.

Chambers says he would have been happy to stay at Forest but their financial circumstances - their takeover is yet to be completed - meant that no new offer was on the table and he has no alternative but to move on.

While yesterday’s claims of a deal worth almost £16,000-a-week are well off the mark, the 26-year-old told the Nottingham Post that an attractive contract — believed to be for three years — is on the table at Town: ”I have had a very good, concrete offer from another club. I have to do what is best for my family.

"I like Nottingham, I have loved being at Forest and we like Nottingham as a family. It has felt as though it is my club and my home.

"I don't particularly like the idea of uprooting my family to another city; of moving across the country. But sometimes you just have to do what is best.

"Like Forest, it is a good club, with good traditions and history. And they are ambitious. That was important. I wanted to go somewhere where they wanted success."

He confirmed that he left Portman Road without signing on Tuesday because he was keen not to rush into anything rather than speak to other clubs: “I am only talking seriously with one club. I just needed some time to make my decision."

The deal looks likely to get done in the next few days with Chambers joining his new team-mates for pre-season training by Monday at the latest.

I agree about the Colchester GK and CB on free transfers. Both in their 20's, keen to prove themselves, come with very good reputations. My only concern would be that I think Colchester conceded quite a few goals last season (mid 60's). This of course, like with Chambers at Forest (who weren't exactly water tight), could be down to several factors: no natural holding man in midfield; rest of the team not keeping possession and putting the defence under constant pressure (probably what Keogh had to deal with at Cov); injuries disrupting partnerships/understandings at the back; full backs bombing forward leaving the flanks exposed; glaring individual errors etc.

I am feeling confident about this now, I really do hope that we can get this player.

Being a forest fan i think i speak for the majority who won't be saddened to see the back of chambers. A very average player in this division who was lucky to hold down a first team place. Had one half decent season in the five seasons he was there. Wrongly appointed as captain last season and was totally out of his depth. This is not sour grapes but the view of a genuine supporter. Best of luck for the coming season tractor boys.

Chambers "I don't particularly like the idea of uprooting my family to another city."

Leeds? lol

I am sure things will work out for us. For me a keeper is of equal importance. Come on Jewell, i would take links to a keeper at this stage please!

See, mixxy is another Forest fan who doesn't rate him. Doesn't give me much inspiration that he's the answer to our defensive problems. More like just a player who is available free (because we have no money?) and we need to make up numbers. I only hope he proves me wrong, I'm not normally a negative type, as people will realise if they read my posts, but this just doesn't excite me.

Thanks for the good luck wishes mixxyb, good luck to you as well apart from 2 games of course!

mixxyb1959. Only one half decent season in five years? I am confused. If I assume the half decent season was the season before last why did you make him player of the year? Are you telling us that the other ten players were total crap? You say it is not sour grapes but I am sure you will excuse me if I disagree on that point. COYB

This one will run for days...........
Better off checking the official ITFC website as regards to this player, as they will only put stories up that are 100% genuine.
These websites are great fun for a bit of pre and post match banter etc, but the ammount of players we have been linked with must run ito double figures.
The one to stay away from is the EADT. They just love winding us Ipswich fans up!
Anyways lets hope this fella signs and more to follow as the new season clock is now ticking.
COYB!!

When McAuley decided to leave I think we all honed in on his less than convincing performances and were somewhat naively confident he could be replaced. Now he is a regular in a mid table Prem side

Getting fed up with this now and makes you think we should go for young hungry players who would walk to Portman Road to play for our beloved Club. Bit concerned also about the negative comments from Forest fans - surely they can't all be wrong can they ? I know its a big step to uproot his family but this is part of a footballers life and I agree with an earlier post give Chambers until Friday to decide and move on. As for the goalkeeping issue this is vital but not sure Williams is the man as at 29 he surely would have made the higher level by now Crewe Carlisle and Colchester is a bit different to the hurly burly of Premiership 2.

He's just gone home to talk to his woman. "Any good shopping in Ipswich?". "Any good hair salons?". For sure.

If I'd been offered to work for 8k a week for 3 years or a nice payoff if its cut short, kicking a ball about and being famous, getting free health care, loads of freebies and plenty of fame, I'd have to spend the night going "er, um, should I kids & the missus, shouldnt I?" ... NOT!.

Sebastian - if she asked about shopping then they won't be coming anywhere near Town - Shopping's awful (much better in Leeds!) unless she fancies the drive to Norwich or the train into London.

Hair Salon's? the wife say's there is a few - the one by St Augustines is supposed to be very good...!

If he fails to sign tomorrow that should be the end of it. Move on.

Chambers will not come to Portman Road. He obviously does not want to move his family so he will stay in the Midlands with either Forest, Derby or Leicester.

Next please

If his missus is thinking about some quality shops here and getting a fancy hair do then we have no chance!! Ipswich for shopping and the like is complete garbage! Full of cheap pound shops and dodgy barbers who will stick a nice tram line in the side of your grade two for a fiver.
I have lived here all my life and i shops in London or Naaarwich now. Maybe even Colchester.
Boy is she in for an eye opener if he decides to sign!

He would be an idiot to sign for us but saying that I hope he does.
Theres nothing here town club and certainly a very poor management team if he wants to further his career go to a club that is run properly.
It says it all that no manager or ceo were at the club when he looked round utter garbage JEWELL & CLEGG OUT

Has anyone else asked any forest fans about Chambers and what they think of him ?????????????? i asked my good mate and here is the response !!!!!

"I see on the various forums that your fans are excited about landing Luke Chambers..... mate, trust me, most Forest fans would happily drive him to Ipswich themselves. He was known as Captain Calamity last season...enjoy !"

I have no idea on chambers but interesting comments !!!

Bluey123 - if Clegg and Jewell were not there (and i heard Clegg was) then it is poor management.

Chambers is obviously thinking about his family and that is refreshing amongst so many toe-rag footballers. I don't think it is neccessarily the club that is the problem, it is Ipswich itself. Let's face it - it is a complete hole which offers nothing. A couple of half decent schools, no decent pubs, no leisure activities , no shops etc. It is not a prosperous town at all - and it will never improve. A very backward town in everything it offers

All roads that lead out of Ipswich are a joke too.

And whilst i have dissed Ipswich i am not a canary before anyone starts on me. I came to ipswich 20 years ago from Chelmsford and to be honest - that's not much better these days either.

Forest fans' comments should be taken with a huge pinch of salt. A player who, 12 months ago, was voted the FANS' player of the year, but now they want gone because he is apparently rubbish (has nothing to do at all with him putting their backs out by telling them that booing counteracts team performances, which is true)?? It is a bizarre change of judgement to say the least.

He's been at Forest for 5 years (and came through the ranks from a youngster at Northampton before that), so he is hardly a journeyman who is used to uprooting his family. If there is an inkling that he could get a new deal at a club he loves and somewhere his family are settled, of course you would give it thought. Fans have to be realistic, no need to pressure the bloke to sign, but as long as we are not putting all our eggs in one basket (a no nonsense powerhouse like 26 year old Okounghae alongside him would make a very welcome change to powderpuff 30 year old Delaney)

@julesbda, the problem is we've lost out on several transfer targets since the turn of the year that we're now exciting by the possibilty of signing anyone. So far we've a young RB with a dodgy hip, a young French-Guinean who nobody knows anything about and the posibility of a German keeper on trial, everyone seems to be excited about these signings where in past seasons they wouldn't really register.
Did anyone really get excited about the signing of Troy Brown? Potential but nowhere near the finshed article (obviously he didn't quite make it and Kourouma and Hewitt could go the same way) no, we didn't really but we've lost our way in the transfer market and getting all hot under the collar about signing anyone.
I still support PJ and used to be generally optimistic, but the way things are at the moment I could become the next Wobbleswick!!
