Chambers: I'm Only Talking to One Club
Chambers: I'm Only Talking to One Club
Thursday, 5th Jul 2012 08:46

Town target Luke Chambers has confirmed that he has only been in talks with one club since his Nottingham Forest contract having came to an end last Saturday. Chambers was at Portman Road for talks, a medical and the traditional tour of the stadium and training facilities on Tuesday but is yet to formally agree to join the Blues.

Chambers says he would have been happy to stay at Forest but their financial circumstances - their takeover is yet to be completed - meant that no new offer was on the table and he has no alternative but to move on.

While yesterday’s claims of a deal worth almost £16,000-a-week are well off the mark, the 26-year-old told the Nottingham Post that an attractive contract — believed to be for three years — is on the table at Town: ”I have had a very good, concrete offer from another club. I have to do what is best for my family.

"I like Nottingham, I have loved being at Forest and we like Nottingham as a family. It has felt as though it is my club and my home.

"I don't particularly like the idea of uprooting my family to another city; of moving across the country. But sometimes you just have to do what is best.

"Like Forest, it is a good club, with good traditions and history. And they are ambitious. That was important. I wanted to go somewhere where they wanted success."

He confirmed that he left Portman Road without signing on Tuesday because he was keen not to rush into anything rather than speak to other clubs: “I am only talking seriously with one club. I just needed some time to make my decision."

The deal looks likely to get done in the next few days with Chambers joining his new team-mates for pre-season training by Monday at the latest.

Up the Town now try and get the 2 Colchester lads who are out of contract. Both keen to prove themselves at Champs level.

Luke, if you want to be a footballer then you must accept the fact of moving your family around!

A very naive statement.

As a former soldier (never on >£8k per week I must add) we got pushed around for peanuts! It's part of the job.

I find his statement naive.

Wonder does he really want to join? or is he hoping forest will offer him a deal?

Guess who's going to read this and offer him a better deal.

All sounds a bit iffy. Looks as if he is looking for a further offer from Forest or somewhere local so his family don't have to move.

I hope it does, but I'm not convinced that this will come off.

If he isn't touting foe a better offer, then 24 hours is plenty of time to talk to the family etc and come to a decision.

Sounds like he should sign which is good news.

Although still think we need a solid GK and a striker, Chopra not good enough last season would like to see PJ spending abit more money on a promising lower division player e.g Jordan Rhodes.

I don't think it is naive, as he did not have any intentions of moving on from Forest, therefore did not have to consider uprooting his family. There are plenty of players who have remained at one club/area for their entire careers. Although 8k+ a week should soften the blow ;-)

Im sure the club are pushing for Luke to sign ASAP. Not much more we can do now. Its in the players hands.

The club are doing well so far in the market. Trying to get the deals done early! Keep up the good work!!

Naive? Really? Sounds like a gounded young fellow, who's got all the facts in front of him, and carefully considering his options with respect to his family.

Being a soldier is slightly different. He doesn't have to move to Ipswich.

would be a decent signing i think, but lets face it, if he was that convinced he would have signed by now. clearly hoping for a better deal elsewhere. Not at all convinced by the whole Evans-Clegg-Jewell combo, early prediction from me.....another mediocre season finishing 15-20th. Piease prove me wrong Town!!! COYB!!

Can't help wonder if he's hoping the financial situation at Forest gets resolved so they make him an offer and he opts to stay. However I understand him not wanting to move.

Guess we'll know by Friday !

Good to see a centre half is being sought ( also need another !! ) .reported that ben Amos going to Hull on loan for a year, that one dead in the water (don't need loans anyway) but Paul Robinson may go to Fulham so surely Stockdale must look to move on. Could be perfect

Sounds like he is waiting for another offer closer to home, so he doesn't have to move his family?? I would give him till the end of the weekend to decide, if not then move on to other targets.

I just can't get excited about this signing, by all accounts Forest fans don't rate him and we're in such desparate need of players that we're pinning our hopes on an out of contract 'average' Championship level player and some rumours about a couple of out of contract players from Col. Is this really the level our club has sunk to where we struggle to get players in? Now we're just feeding off the scraps and all got our fingers crossed that this one player signs?

Wickets added 09:54 - Jul 5
Yes it looks like waiting for same sort of offer closer to "home" but you never know.

Lets give the two lads from colchester a go. At least they wont have to move.I reckon chambers will stay at forest if they offer him a deal which is still quite possible.

Bear in mind that he will have an agent keen to squeeze every last penny out of the deal. They're the scum of the earth.
