I once had a girlfriend whose father was a member at a local Memorial Club. In a nice part of the world, and most members were quite civilised.
On a Sunday lunchtime, they’d have roast potatoes on the bar, however on one Sunday the local Health and Safety team came in and took a bowl away for testing. On one potato, they found 12 different urine traces. |

Was discussing this with brother earlier. Jens in the Championship would almost be unfair on the opposition.
When we played against Manchester United at home, he looked like a Manchester United player.

Absolutely 100% spot on. For some of the fixtures this season, looking down from Cobbold Upper the opposition all look like Olympic Decathletes. |

Three higher were a league game against Birmingham City, FA Cup quarter final against Chelsea, and Johnston’s Paint Trophy Northern Final against Crewe.

I am fortunate enough to know a professional player in the higher echelons of the pyramid.
Two things that he’s told me that stand out
- It is a freakishly short career! Sign first contract at 18, and may carry on until about 33. That means a potential 50+ year ‘retirement’. Only very few are gazillionaires and can afford to do sod all after finishing playing.
- Players are playing with minor knocks almost all of the time, as they know that if they have any time out then the next cab on the rank could come in and take their place. [Post edited 8 Feb 21:44]

Yes!
Found a new way, that may save a little bit of time. Alight at Shenfield, Uber to Upminster, then train to Fenchurch Street. Did it at weekend and more than anything at least avoids the fecking bus!
