Trialist Jakupović Impressing
Trialist Jakupović Impressing
Friday, 6th Jul 2012 06:00

Trialist keeper Eldin Jakupović has impressed boss Paul Jewell since joining up with the Blues for pre-season. The 27-year-old Bosnian-born former Swiss international is a free agent having left Greek club Aris, one of Town’s 1981 UEFA Cup opponents, at the end of last season.

Jewell said: “We’ve got a lad on trial, who has looked good. I know Hull City were very keen on him last season and they offered him a deal, then the manager changed, and that changed.”

The Blues boss says that even if Jakupović does enough to win a deal, he may continue to look for another keeper: “We’re having a look at him for the week, but we’ve also got two or three other targets that even if that happens we might pursue.”

Jewell insists, however, that the club’s only current senior keeper, Arran Lee-Barrett, won’t be forgotten: “If this lad does well, he might be one.

“But that doesn’t mean that Arran Lee-Barrett’s out of the picture. It’s a case of seeing how this one does. But we have got one or two on the back burner.”

Good point there Paul, ALB must have a real chance if he takes on the challenge. But competition is always good....

He can't get crosses, fails to hold the ball, a bit of a shot stopper,he had a lot of clubs, not the number one the Town need

Very agile, but a bit less punching would be good 99smle, good to feet 2, Malcolm Webster will sort him out........Sign him up!!!

The question still has to be asked and investigated properly - is he markedly any better than ALB? If he isn't then I would suggest we look elsewhere.

For me ALB is back up only, we need a solid number 1, if this guy is No1 material then sign him up if not then get a proper No1, we haven't had a proper full time keeper for a couple of years and clearly our goals against column has suffered.

What, the one that wiped his bogey on that poor little mascot?! I'd rather not have that type of person in the town squad. If I was that kids dad I would've chinned him!

@99smle

Thanks for putting up the video clip.
I hope we dont see defending like that at PR this season!!lol

He looks very agile and alert to danger arond the box. Plus he is quick to come off his line to close down space when strikers break through.
One or two examples of good distribution from his hands. I wonder how his kicking is?? Diddnt see much of that. Would like to see more of his distribution in general.

Definitely a good prospect and seems to be impressing the coaching staff. Ã’n a free so would provide great cover at a minimum maybe even No 1.

@IrishTim

So have you forgotten about Elliot Hewitt already? Welsh U21 right back who has every chance of claiming a place in the side. PJ hasn't brought him in to make up the numbers!

@warkys Tash. My silly mistake. Reckon Elliot will be a major player for us over the next few seasons.

Our defense is improving with the signing of Chambers, Hewitt and hopefully a new permanent keeper. Cresswell has a full season under his belt and Smith has come on leaps and bounds.

I have to say it is encouraging!
Chops looks lean and happy and JET will be fit from the first whistle.
Kourouma could be a dark horse, will be interesting to see how he and Hyam progress over the season.

Under todays Ipswich Rumours which lets face it says what's on the tin rumours is this:- Ipswich look set to sign 6'5 goalkeeper 'Johannes Hopf' from Hammarby rubbish it might well be, but check him out on utube this a real goalkeeper he is far better than the clown we have on trial

We need to sign a keeper and quickly. A key position which has not been addressed permantely by PJ over the past 18 months.

You are the reason this club is in the way it is... Fans who put the team down instead of backing them. Give the lad a chance. I don't see you managing a club? Let the manager decide whos good and whos not.

Bluebird39 you don't give goalkeepers a chance at being No1, this keeper on trail is a clown do your research, as for PJ I have no faith in him at all. The reason my friend the club is in a bit of a mess is poor management nothing or less,
