Blues Target Guiu Closing in On Sunderland Loan Thursday, 31st Jul 2025 17:17 Blues target Marc Guiu is closing in on a loan move to newly promoted Premier League Sunderland.
Town first spoke to the 19-year-old’s parent club Chelsea in May during the discussions which led to Liam Delap’s £30 million switch to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are understood to have maintained their interest with the Spaniard having spent much of the summer away with Chelsea at the Club World Cup in the USA.
At the time of the initial interest, Guiu was said to be reluctant to move to the Championship with Chelsea’s French sister club Strasbourg also reported to be interested.
Earlier in the week, Sunderland were reported to be in discussions regarding a move for the Spanish U19 international and now that switch is understood to be close to confirmation.
Granollers-born Guiu joined Chelsea in July 2024 from Barcelona after a €6 million release clause was activated, the striker signing a six-year deal.
Town will now have to look elsewhere for a frontman to compete with George Hirst for the number nine position.
As it stands, Hirst is the firm first-choice with Ali Al-Hamadi his back-up. The Iraq international is interesting Luton Town and Toulouse among other clubs but the Blues won’t consider allowing him to move on until they have added another striker, probably two.

Shame but it always seemed like he wasn't going to come down to the Championship anyway, but we move on I wouldn't mind giving Kone from Wycombe a shout, reckon he could be a great one to come off the bench when the opposition defence is getting tired

Im really surprised, I thought with Delap going "early" this was really likely but if not, there will be others we haven't heard about....

Not a surprise - he pretty much stated early in the first window that he wasn’t interested in a move to the championship. We’ve known about this for a while - so presumably are in advanced talks with other strikers. We are one Hirst injury away from a fairly major issue. AAH is not the answer and would benefit from a loan move.

We need to move on quickly. Why haven’t we already found someone else. It was clear from the outset he didn’t want to come ?

We probably have never been in for him. In recent years we tend not to sign players that we are linked with.

A couple of weeks ago I made a post on here about 4/5 strikers worth at least a look at. At the top of the list was Schuto Maschino, then of Holstein Kiel. I see he's been snapped up by Borussia Monchengladbach for the princely sum of around 7m Euro's. They are out there, and I don't have an expensive data programme, or a cheap one! So we will continue to wait and see what develops, personally whatever happens, I want to see players here who actually see us as the intended destination rather than a few stops down the line or a last one!

The window is open for another month isn't it? Something will happen, just don't panic buy Town!!!

I doubt he was the one we were pinning our hopes on since he wasn’t keen when Delap left.

Blueoutlook because it’s championship manager on the PC that’s why. No one wants to sell their best strikers they’re worth their weight in gold unless it’s a player from a lower league which most on here would moan about. Meaning it’s a youngster or someone not getting a game at a prem team. Armchaircritic again you think someone’s leaving a top league club for the championship?? Christ

What like Omari Hutchinson did BBP? You and blues1 should think before you post.

We spent ages after Boja last year wonder what he is up too…….surely we must be close to identifying and recruiting a couple of forwards……only a month left but more importantly a week to the season starts

Problem is there are too many pieces in the jigsaw, spending a large amount on Hackney probably means we are relying on loan striker, or a cheap backup - someone who will understudy Hirst. That could reverse if the Hackney deal falls through and see us perhaps go back for Latte Lathe but funds won't support 2 bids in the 15-20 million region unless Omari goes. I would bet £50 quid that Hirst picks up an injury that keeps him out for 4 or 5 consecutive games. Unfortunately our playing style relies in a strong robust forward who can act as a target man. A backup doesnt necessarily need to be a big goal merchant as long as he can bring others into the game and give the many gorilla centre halves in the championship a physical battle. The signings so far have been very good, but in all honesty we have only replaced the experience that we have let leave the club. We still arguably need 4 very decent signings, but as time ticks by I expect we will only bring in 2-3. I think late acquisitions last year hampered us, whilst I want to say don't panic, I can't help think we have left two of the most important signings very close to the start of the season and think concerns expressed by some fans are valid. I think the next 2-3 days are critical. I don't think going into the season with Humphreys and Barbrook ready to step up, or Leif to adopt a new role is going to disadvantage us too much, I don't think any of them will let us down but we do need a lot more authority from the middle if the park on the pitch. Plus Szmodics or Hamadi can not play the George Hirst role so our momentum could be nipped in the blood for the first few matches until McKenna is confident that he knows his strongest team (easier to say on paper but not so easy in practice)

BeattiesBackPocket, strictly speaking Maschino has left a Bundesliga 2 side, as Holstein Kiel were relegated at the end of last season. I'm not saying we could have beaten off BM, though we certainly could have offered a good bit more than they did. On opta world club standings BM are just 23 places above us. Just because a league has the number 1 after it's name, doesn't necessary mean it's top dollar all the way through. In fact some are rubbish once you take away the usual suspects. Like others I expect, he may not wanted to have come here even if we made any sort of enquiry, fair enough. What in essence I'm saying is, you'll never throw a double six if you don't roll the dice.

My brother is a Chelsea season ticket holder and on the few occasions that he has seen Guiu in the flesh he in his opinion is a typical Chelsea signing, young and was a big name and with that comes a big ego and has is so far down the pecking order its unreal.. He has only scored goals in the Conference Cup which is a competition for Div 1 clubs and below. He also loves a juicy dive probably taught by Cucarella, so personally not disappointed with his decision to go to Sunderland.
