Chambers Signs for Town
Chambers Signs for Town
Monday, 9th Jul 2012 14:24

Town have confirmed the signing of former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers on a three-year deal. The 26-year-old free agent was at Portman Road this morning to tie up the detail of his move, having been at the club last Tuesday for a medical and to look at the stadium and training facilities.

Chambers told the club site: "I'm delighted to be an Ipswich Town player. I spoke to a few people in the game that know the manager and Ipswich and they had nothing but good words to say. Coming here was a no-brainer for me."

Manager Paul Jewell added: "There were a few clubs in for Luke but I always felt confident we would get him and I'm delighted we have."

Chambers is Town’s second signing of the summer after Macclesfield’s Elliott Hewitt, who joined for a fee of £250,000 plus top-ups at the end of May, also signing a three-year deal.

Town have announced a press conference at 4pm this afternoon.

on the keeper front could we not prise Bunn away from Tottenham? not sure if that is the right team, he was utter class for the cobblers when i watched them while i was at school then got a big move to spurs (i think) and is now 3rd/4th/5th choice

i will admit that i have been perplexed by some of pj's signings, but not at this one. ( hope that does not come back to bite me in the a***! )

if memory serves me right he had two good games against us last season!

Firstly great signing! Something that hasn't been mentioned on here though is about his wife. There was a statement by Chambers that through last season, his wife had some sort of problem. Cannot quite remember what it was but i know it was bad. And so he was worried about her through the season. Maybe that's why he didn't perform as well last season? Just a thought.

Well done the management, good signing. There were times last week when I thought Chambers was playing games, but I now think I was wrong.

Now for a quality keeper and we are nearly there.

tractorboy666. yes ur right his wife apparently has a problem with postnatal depression according to interview in notts paper. that why he wasnt sure of whether moving at this time a good idea . totally understandable. glad it turned out ok in the end tho. & hope she get better soon.

Very pleased with this piece of buisness. Putting things in perspective, It is likely Chambers did use the weekend to satisfy his own mind, and more importantly, that of his family. I think we have got a good player with a sensible, grounded head on his shoulders. They are the sort of qualities that are not necessarily seen on a football pitch - Carlos Tevez fiasco for example!!!

Welcome Luke and pat on the back for PJ for clearly putting the time in, and being patient. Clegg and ME likewise. Maybe we can trust in the management for the rest of the summer?
