Jewell: Media Haven't Picked Up on Targets
Jewell: Media Haven't Picked Up on Targets
Wednesday, 11th Jul 2012 14:19

Blues boss Paul Jewell says that the media are yet to pick up on the identities of some of his summer transfer targets. The Town manager, who has already added central defender Luke Chambers and right-back Elliott Hewitt to his squad, says quality players who are available are proving hard to find.

Jewell, who also reiterated his intention to get the likes of Lee Martin signed up on longer deals, told BBC Radio Suffolk: "Seeing how quiet the market's been over the summer would indicate there's a premium of good players around.

"We're not even getting to the stage of people turning us down because there really is a lack of players."

He says some of the players he has in mind as he looks to add another three or four players before the start of the season are yet to leak out: "We've got targets and we're pursuing them and luckily they haven't been reported in the press."

He has been in management a while now so as long as the players are in before the blackburn game. Onwards and upwards.

'they haven't been reported in the press:' presume that includes Phil on here.
Ok we'd better be patient, so that Leeds, etc don't snatch them away.

'Johannes Hopf' i believe is one of them. I heard a rumour a little while ago and mentioned it on here. Googled it recently, and it's now on a few other website's. There must be something in it surely?

Craig Gordon and Danny Gabbidon are free transfers who haven't been linked, and I'm pretty sure than Danny Collins hasn't been mentioned with a return and would be available. I thought he was the best centre back to play for us since Jason De Vos, yes better than McAuley

Once again this proves my point That constant article's on TWTD linking us with players the club have no interest in! There has been alot of frustration amongst town fans on here caused by I.e the town linked with J.Lewis for example the club never showed interested in him so why do a story bout it: just because The Sun links us with a player doesn't mean u have too upload the story as well: I'm v pleased with Hewlett n Chambers I wonder who is other targets our probably players aboard especially as u get better value: British players overpriced n what to high wages like J.Pearce n J.Ward:

Lukeybluey; Hopf would be a decent signing, big commanding keeper - just what we need. Presumably from PJ's comments rumours of Loach may be wide of the mark.

as much as we all like a bit of transfer gossip , i hope we are going to keep up the hush hush approach to signings so not to alert anyone until they are signed.

I have heard the Johannes Hopf, it was only on a footy rumours site but he looks pretty solid.

@DanLyles i agree with you Collins was brilliant for us and i'd welcome him back, Gabbidon or Gordon would equally be good signings but can't see it!

There was interest in Lewis. The person who told me also told me that Cardiff were the frontrunners, before it had been reported anywhere else, which proved to be the case.

Like other sites and pretty much everywhere else in the media, we'll continue to include what's reported elsewhere.

PJ its getting nearer and nearer to the season start and we need players in now instead of a week or month into the season when they are nowhere as fit as the rest of our squad. Then it takes them weeks to catch up and by then we could be way behind in terms of points gained. We desperately need TWO goalkeepers a centre back and a quick left sided midfield player before we can even think about challenging. I am sure PJ will get his men in but when is the worrying apsect for me.

Not in the press?! This IMO makes is more exciting to see what happens because suddenly tomorrow we may of signed someone! Not getting too excited or anything...

I still think we are at least FOUR decent players away from being able to make an impression this season. The first two signings have been good - albeit disappointing that one is not fit and won't be until October. We clearly need a GK, whilst we are still short at CB (despite the signing of Chambers). Also need to improve the midfield (as have lost Bowyer, Leadbitter and Murphy), whilst the front-line also looks weak as far as options are concerned. Would be surprised if PJ doesn't sign at least another 5 players - with one being a season long loan.

End of the day I would rather read facts not fiction when it comes too potential signings we have been linked with far too many players, the club our 100% not targeting! another ex: Jacobs who actually said Ipswich never made a enquiry or make an offer then when he signed for Derby due to TWTD linking us with him: Evans Clegg n Jewell got slaughtered n criticised on here it's not right:

DanLyles - A bit extreme to say Collins was a better centre back for us than MacAuley. He played for us for 3 months and in that time, we conceded a lot of goals (many of which he was liable for with poor marking, being beaten in the air etc) before he went off to West Ham for the rest of the season to try and get more money, having claimed he wanted to stay in the midlands a few weeks before. That statement is an absolute insult to MacAuley!!!
