Lonergan Completes Bolton Move
Lonergan Completes Bolton Move
Tuesday, 17th Jul 2012 10:57

Leeds keeper Andy Lonergan has completed his move to Bolton a fee of around £200,000. The Blues and Sheffield Wednesday were also believed to have targeted the 28-year-old former Preston man.

Town go into tonight’s first pre-season friendly at Helmond Sport with Arran Lee-Barrett their only senior keeper (KO 7pm, local time).

The game against the Dutch Eerste Divisie side will see central defender Luke Chambers make his first appearance in a Blues shirt.

Prior to that game, there is a fans' match, also at Helmond Sport's main stadium (KO 4pm, local time).

Elsewhere, former Blue Pim Balkestein has joined AFC Wimbledon on a free transfer from Brentford.

Disagree with earlier posts. Essential PJ sorts the keeper situation NOW. It's a key position, and important the new no. 1 develops an understanding with the first choice CB's (presumably we are still short in that department too?). Therefore, this should happen in pre-season games.

Whether people like it or not, PJ has had ample time to sort this situation out - since last pre-season; where Fulop and Murphy left. To have to borrow a local keeper for this tour is careless. Disappointing Summer from PJ so far. Other clubs are spending - and big in some cases. We can argue about fair play regulations as long as we like - but the reality is we are at least 4 players if not 5 away from having a decent team for the coming season.

Why is it that nobody on here seems particularly bothered that yet again we enter pre-season without a recognised number 1. Its laughable. ALB is a competent back up but has proved not to be good enough to rely on week in week out.
What price we have another loanee brought in at the last minute.
Sort it Jewell

Butland from b'ham would be decent in my opinion

No chance of butland whatsoever .

We can't sign I has been like kusciak let alone a bright prospect like butland.

Agree with Jas0999, the signing of 1 cb is not all we need, we only have 4 cb's on our books hope no one gets injured or sent off. 2 goalkeepers, at least 1 more right sided cb, cm, lm and striker

@dantheman. I cant see anywhere anything which directly links ITFC to him,. Owen Coyle certainly makes direct ref to him but nothing other than papertalk - which Phil referred to- lionk Ipswich with him. So with all due respect to Phil, I would suggest he simply reported what others were saying rather than having direct knowledge of this.

I think we still need another CB, obviously a GK, a right midfielder and a striker to properly compete!

lets face it ,its just going to be another disapointing [if not disasterous ] transfer window ,probably followed by another equaly disapointing [if not disasterous ] season .We [ITFC] have been sleep walking towards league 1 since Burley went .

Hope the younger lads get decent game time tonight. Looks like we will need them this season as i doubt we b signing too many players.

I think its a change of transfer policy for PJ this season in fact he has said as much in the local press saying he's not going to panic buy players who are available but rather wait and get the ones he wants. The goalkeeper situation is obviously being looked at otherwise we wouldn't have taken the guy who eventually went to hull on trial. I honestly believe PJ is holding out for a loan keeper from the PL again like stockdale. I dont agree with it because i think we need a permanent long term signing but for someone unknown reason PJ doesn't seem to rate Heaton etc but i cant see us paying a fee for someone like Loach

I remember a story a few weeks back, that Fullham was trying to sign another gk . Part of me is wondering if we are waiting for stockpile, either on loan again or a full time move.

Has the club officially stated that we were interested in this signing ?
Has Jewell or Clegg had any contact with this player ?
Did we make him an offer ?

For us to lose out to another club again ,all of the above have to be answered YES

The transfer window so far has been disspapointing once again. I expect players coming in in the next 10 days if not then it's simply not good enough. Time will only tell though.

Belated thanks Fatboy. The headline including both Williams and Clegg in it made me not bother reading the whole story. Problem is Phil sometimes adds a real point of interest at the end of these stories, making it a rule that you should read everything.

Surco72 - whether we made an enquiry or not - fact is we loose out on another potential keeper - CAN'T YOU SEE THAT.

And if he's good enough for Bolton - don't talk nonsense and say he's not good enough for us.

so many people on here keep saying '' we can do better or there are better players out there'' each time we are ''linked '' with anyone .Get real !.

dirtydingus - agree with you - but the posters you refer to are 'dreamboats living in cuckoo land' - will never change, and will never know the meaning of realism.

H32 as always your mouth has run away with you . Loach to sign and maybe Kello also but you are convinced we were after Loneghan !!!
Town were never after him or we wouldnt have one on trial the same evening and another signing the next day MUPPET - CANT YOU SEE THAT !!!
