Town Move for Loach
Town Move for Loach
Tuesday, 17th Jul 2012 20:38

Town are understood had an offer accepted by Watford for keeper Scott Loach. The 24-year-old former England U21 international, who we reported was the subject of a Town enquiry in late June, was previously with the Blues’ academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family returned to hometown Nottingham.

Loach has been linked with Town on a number of occasions during the close season, the keeper having said it would be “a dream to play” for his boyhood club one day last summer.

The 6ft 4in tall keeper established himself as Watford’s number one during 2008/09 but after a drop in form fell out of favour at Vicarage Road last season with Manchester United’s Tomasz Kuszczak — Town’s number one keeper target until he joined Brighton - coming in on loan.

In addition to his spells as a youngster with the Blues — where he will have worked with current keeper-coach Malcolm Webster and returning academy director Bryan Klug - and Nottingham Forest, Loach was also with Southwell United and Lincoln City's youth set-ups, spending time on loan with the likes of Bourne Town, Radcliffe Olympic, Boston Town, Spalding United, Stamford, Lincoln United, Gedling Miners Welfare and Grantham Town while with the Imps.

In April 2006, Loach moved on to Watford, Lincoln receiving £50,000 in compensation. Prior to breaking into the first team at Vicarage Road he went on further loan spells at Stafford Rangers, Morecambe and Bradford City.

Presumably making reference to his proposed move to the Blues, Loach tweeted earlier this evening: "So buzzing right now. Hopefully more will become clear soon."

Loach can be seen in action for Town’s academy in this short film.

Over the hill mercenary who doesn't care a toss about the club...oh wait, he's the complete opposite! capped by England under 21's! Still only 24 but with bags of experience and he supports the club! Talk of signing him AND Kello puts me in wonderland! think many on here are being a tad harsh to say he's an awful keeper for one bad season. watford have been taken over recently - remember us selling a lot of good players and buying tosh when we got took over. Loach is just the kind of signing we need. Very happy with this

Only question left to ask...Whos next? Sindre...get your crystal ball out fella!

A lot of posters are delighted with the idea of both Loach & Kello; Loach mainly because he is local & a fan and Kello because of a YouTube clip. Add in ALB & we may well have 3 keepers in place by the weekend.
My fear is that we'll end up with much of a muchness. If I'm honest none of them fill me with huge confidence & that is what I was looking for. ALB is local & that hasn't been enough. He could also put a decent 5 minute video of his best moments together which would impress viewers, but we'd know better.
I don't know anything about Kello so I can't get exctied about him possibly signing. I know more about Loach, but while there's undoubted talent there is also concerning aspects to his recent form.
I'm neither pleased nor unhappy with this news, I guess I'm just whelmed by the prospects.

This link was always on the cards. He will be here by lunchtime on friday and if he is i will celebrate with a "Club" sandwich.

Happy with this - now all we need is another centre back, two midfielders, a right back and a striker. Oh and a couple of decent refs at Portman Road. And of course to sign up a couple of our players on longer contracts.

B E A utiful.!!!

Kello + Loach + ALB is a pretty decent goalkeeping line-up.

Very very happy with this one. Decent keeper, experienced in this division, only 24 so plenty of time to mature and develop, and above all, a town fan! That passion in the team can only be a good thing. I would be ecstatic if we signed him and Kello as well as backup. We'd go from having no decent permanent keepers in 4 years to having two at once! Just a centre back and striker and I'll be a happy tractor boy

Yes to Loach & Kello. Noe for Keogh & Davies plus maybe those trialists & we should give a good account of ourselves this season.
