Loach Due at Town for Medical
Loach Due at Town for Medical
Wednesday, 18th Jul 2012 16:39

Blues target Scott Loach is set to undergo a medical at Town this evening as the keeper closes in on a dream move to his boyhood club. We understand Loach is not yet at Portman Road but will be later on today with the move looking likely to be confirmed either this evening or tomorrow.

Earlier this afternoon, the 24-year-old said his situation would be “clear within the next few hours”.

The Nottingham-born glovesman's representatives have talked personal terms with the Blues today with the deal - probably a three or four-year contract - now looking closer to completion than manager Paul Jewell suggested after last night’s game at Helmond Sport: “We’ve been chasing a goalkeeper for a while and we’re hoping it’s going to happen in the next few days.”

Loach was previously with the Blues’ academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family returned to Nottingham. Loach can be seen in action with the Blues as a youngster in this short film.

I think he will do well for us seeing as he actually wants to be here. I just hope that he is better that the last player we had from Watford ! Or are they the football version of Arthur Daley ?

C'mon Town, dont let Blackburn's coach, poach Loach!

Who cares what Watford fans think? If he made some mistakes at Vicarage Road and learnt from them, then all the better for us. England U21 too, so isnt all that bad and when i've seen him he's been very hard to beat. Col U fans witnessed some howlers from Smith, but that experience has made him better for us.

At 24, Loach is in his prime for a Keeper and the time is right to come to Town! COYB.

Quaility 'keeper who is still at a good age so he can improve. He's actaully an Ipswich fan so he should be very passionite, I woud like too see him as our no.1 for years to come! Fantastic signing & I don't know why people are complaining; he was in the England setup and Blackburn are still interested in signing him, and they are one of the favrioutes to go up so he can't be that bad! Good work Jewell & Clegg, keep it up! COYB!

Bluey420 if you are referring to last season Kuszcak was in goal at Vicarage Road. BigAlsMate sorry but you can't go to games if you think ALB has never let us down. The guy sadly is an accident waiting to happen and gives the defence little confidence. We need Kello as well now please.

Jas. Well at least support Jewell a little more. He has his targets and sometimes it takes time to get your man. I understand you're frustrated that it took 12 months but having Stockdale over half of last season was a very good loan deal IMO.

Hopefully now that if we complete this deal, Loach and maybe Kello too can command the back 4 for years to come.

I couldn't understand why this deal hadn't been done ages ago as he's a lad who wants to play for ITFC. Get Kello in as number 2 and let ALB go.

I'm not saying ALB is the best goalkeeper we have ever had, but if it was not for him we would be down, he come on against Cardiff when wright got injured and was by far our best player for the rest of the season.

Brilliant news - welcome home Scott :^D

A Town fan with all the tools to be a top keeper - at 24 he's only going to improve too, so with a bit of luck we might have taken care of the number 1 jersey for the next decade...

Blackburn as promotion favourites ????? With Kean in charge they are more likely relegation favourites !!! The man has no idea and has lost most of his better players !

Here's hoping that Scott is not an Arsenal supporter and always dreamed of playing for them and it would be the only team he would leave his beloved Ipswich Town if Arsenal come in for him after an amazing first season..........

Was really hoping Blackburn would step in and spare us from signing Loach. Have seen him play a few times for Watford and based on what I saw he is very poor. Looking at what Hornets fans have posted on their site, this would appear to be the case. Watford fans have, perhaps rather unkindly, nicknamed him 'Liability Loach'. So what if he supports Town, so do I but that doesn't mean I'm the man to solve a problem we've had since Kelvin Davis left. Me thinks we're about to sign Richard Wright Mk II and as we all know, that is not a good thing!

It looks like Loach is on his way then. 24 is a great age to bring in a keeper with years of improvement ahead of him, and he has lots of experience with his 154 league appearances with Watford and 14 England U21 caps.

Welcome home, Scott!

As mentioned only time will tell if we've signed a good goalie, but we have been linked with better I believe, but hope he does well.

Great signing. Hes still young for a keeper so can be our no.1 for years! Great keeper, and can excel with our facilities and staff. Positive signing:-)

For those that take interest in what Watford fans are saying....here's one posted half an hour ago...
" I was behind the Watford goal at the last home game against Middlesborough when Loach made three outstanding saves which kept us in that game. One of these was magnificent and I would judge it as good a save as I have seen for a very long time. We went on to win that game and Scott's contribution made me feel that he would be far better away from Watford where, without the bile of so-called fans whose hostility to him meant he could never recover his confidence, he could yet go on to become the great keeper that so many knowledgeable people believed he could be. Ipswich could just that kind of place and I wish him well; we may yet come to regret the way we abused this young man.”....Let's hope this Watford fan is right and Town fans get behind him rather than slag him off unfairly at the first opportunity!

To those who think I don't attend games because I felt some of the comments on here regarding ALB are a bit on the harsh side ... can I just assure you that I am a fully paid up season ticket holder and have been for over 15 years since I packed in playing at 40 years of age!

Yes, of course he made mistakes, but then again the 10 in front of him didn't always do their bit to protect him and confidence can get low in a struggling side.

I was just trying to make the point that he never let us down with effort, attitude etc and I think, regardless of whether he is up to standard or not, a little more respect might shown to him.

well sounds all good to me, but me personaly i dont care who we have in the sticks as you attack as a team and defend as a team, you can have the best keeper in the world but if you have a poor midfield or defence then you will struggle, we need a keeper who ditributes the ball from the back as and when he can and realse the ball quick for the counter attack, we havnt had this since begovic , you look at all the best footballing teams and this is what they do, also chasing players down and not giving them time on the ball, we doine this in patches aka building upto the westham match, and not just pumping the ball down the pitch, but hey we will see wont we

Thanks for the balancing post Langdon Blue but ask yourself this - Why were the Watford fans abusing Loach? Was it due to his brilliant performances for them?! Your post only heightens my concerns. Oh and while we're at it, Chambers is a bad signing too. That is the market Town are in now - cast offs from other championship clubs. We'd be much better off scouring the lower leagues for young keen talent ala Cresswell. Hopefully Hewitt will have the same impact after his injury.
