Town Hold Open Day as Bullard's Exit Set to Be Confirmed
Friday, 10th Aug 2012 08:43

Town fans get the chance to watch Paul Jewell and his staff put the squad through their paces at a free-to-enter open training day at Portman Road this morning (10am-3pm). One man who won’t be present is midfielder Jimmy Bullard, whose Blues exit is likely to be confirmed today.

In addition to the training session and the chance to get players’ autographs, there will be plenty of other activities and attractions at the open day.

Last year 2,000 people attended a similar event and as a result this year the club has significantly expanded the itinerary, which you can see in full here.

Mark Murphy’s Radio Suffolk show is coming live from Portman Road with chief executive Simon Clegg in the hotseat answering questions sent in by fans.

News of Jimmy Bullard’s Blues departure is likely to be formalised today with his representatives and the club close to concluding an agreement regarding the remaining year on his lucrative Town contract. The freed up funds will help manager Paul Jewell to add to his squad with three new players on his wish list.

Prior to the open day the club is holding the annual photocall with the squad.

I went to a Tottenham one for my bro's birthday couple of years ago and was bored to tears, that why i'm reluctant to endure the train journey lol

Hopefully we see a davies deal sorted soon then. Still don't pay over the odds. I'd say 750k maximum with additional add ons for appearances .

ive got a feeling this will allow us to get murhpy...and the other CB from celtic perhaps. I would rather the lad from Huddersfield tho, everything ive heard about him he sounds very decent. Would still love boyd from P'boro but cant see that

We now look a little thin in the midfield area and a definite lack of experience, however I'm hoping Luongo will make up for some of that in sheer quality.
Our central midfield now is Luongo, Drury, Hyam and Stevenson as Kourouma hasn't been signed yet as he's still covered in brown tape or something.
A shame that Bullard has wasted his talent but he's better off gone as PJ doesn't seem to want to (or can due to JB's own efforts, I'm not buying the rubbish about trying hard in training, that's just a PR cover up) use him anymore.

How much money is this likely to save?--Bullard will presumably want the vast majority of the money owed him as he is unlikely to get a lucrative deal elsewhere. It will save a little and will remove a potential problem from the squad, but it is hardly likely to lead to big-money signings.

As one who cheered when Jimmy joined us, I feel very sad that he hasn't fulfilled the potential that he showed whilst on loan. As he is obviously not the future of the club, and for whatever the reasons given as to his departure are, I'm sure they are in the best interests of the club.
