Jewell Tight-Lipped on Edu Interest
Monday, 13th Aug 2012 13:54

Boss Paul Jewell was remaining tight-lipped regarding the Blues’ interest in Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu at today's press conference ahead of the Capital One Cup tie against Bristol Rovers. Town are understood to have held talks with the 26-year-old US international regarding a move to Portman Road.

Jewell said: “I’m very reluctant to speak about names. I don’t think it’s fair. He’s a Rangers player. I wouldn’t like managers talking about my players, so I don’t think it’s the right and proper way to do it.

“You can speculate and I’m not going to give you a bum steer here, but it’s not right for me to comment on players who are under contract.”

Understandable. I suppose (and hope) this means he is interested in signing Edu, as normally he dismisses claims when he isn't interested! Please sign him.

Fingers crossed then. But one things for sure, we have a paper thin squad in terms of strength in depth and now with more players leaving this week also in terms of sheer numbers.

And the season starts next saturday,!

Glad to hear PJ's not going to give the reporters a "Bum Steer".

Must have forgotten his KY Jelly.

So he is a Rangers player, not a free agent? The stuff about him refusing to transfer his contract to the newco was wrong then?

He must be interested, just hope we can get it tied up before another team offers double the wages and beats us to him

No news is bad news

I love it when PJ says it's wrong to talk about other teams players when he happily chirps away about Steve Davies! I think there must be something in the story regarding Edu, lets hope he pulls it off as we are very short of quality and strenght in depth.

Phil, can you do something about these baby milk adverts on the site? Just been viewing TWTD on the mobile in the office with the sound on and had some woman in an advert asking me in a sexy voice if I wanted to move on from breast milk onto baby milk and giving me recomendations. Not done my street cred any good at all I tell you!

Yeah agree, if this goes on too long you can guarantee another club will come in for him and surely it would be a Premiership club? why would he only be looking here?...after the apparent talks over the weekend I was hoping 'things' would move swiftly but that is obviously not the case as he is in Mexico. I like to believe this will happen but unfortunately I can't...

He'd be a good signing, from most accounts. We do need some energy in midfield, that's for sure. Peters was a bit of a headless chicken, but he's the only guy I've seen in a Town shirt that stayed right in the thick of things as long as he was on the pitch. But if not Edu, then someone similar, I think- good to be linked with the right type of player. Hope we get them in soonish!
