Reo-Coker In Talks But Deal Not Done Saturday, 13th Oct 2012 18:43 Free agent Nigel Reo-Coker has not yet signed for Town but the Blues are one of a number of Championship clubs speaking to the former Wimbledon, Aston Villa, Bolton and West Ham man.
Reports earlier this evening claimed a deal had been completed but while the Blues are currently speaking to the former England U21 international, and appear very much to be the current frontrunners for his signature, no move has so far been agreed.
Reo-Coker’s agent Tony Finnigan told TWTD: “It’s a club we have spoken to and are in talks with. Ipswich are one of a host of Championship clubs interested.”
The 28-year-old was recently training with Charlton, while Crystal Palace and Hull City are also clubs understood to be interested, but Town would seem to be the favourites for his signature at the present time.
Born in Thornton Heath, Reo-Coker started his career with the old Wimbledon, making his senior debut in the 2002/03 season. His displays for the Dons impressed West Ham who signed him for £500,000 in January 2004.
After three and a half not always happy years at Upton Park, during which time he captained the side under Alan Pardew, the former England U21 skipper joined Aston Villa for £8.5 million in July 2007 having asked for a transfer.
He left Villa when his contract expired last summer and, having apparently held talks with Town, moved on to Bolton, where he made 42 starts and scored three goals as they dropped out of the Premier League. In May he activated a relegation clause in his contract and left the Reebok Stadium.
Capped 23 times at U21 level, scoring once, Reo-Coker subsequently rejected the international advances of Sierra Leone, the country of his doctor father’s birth and where he lived for six years as a child.

Story of PJs reign as ITFC manager. "Player in talks" i wonder if the outcome will be any different? It goes to show again that Evans is prepared to splash more cash. Just a shame PJ could find suitable players in the summer! JEWELL OUT!!!

I think our midfield is struggling at the moment so I would be happy with someone else to put some backbone in there. Still need people at the back tho'. COYB whatever!!

If he signs for us we have a player who in my opinion is still more than capable in the Premier League, hopefully like DJ he will understand the challenges we're facing at the moment and I think he would be the type of person and player that would relish that see as he has captained sides in the past if I'm not mistaken. Would be a major coup and I would love to see him and Hyam in the centre of our midfield, would be a proper sign of intent from this club, hopefully it progresses.

ipsfem agreed the midfield is struggling but come on how many different players and systems has PJ tried this season alone? He has absolutely no idea what his best team/formation is and that is the problem. Were being asked to give PJ time, time he doesn't afford to his own players. JEWELL OUT!!!

Rep Coker Deal Done That was the headline, shocking journalism, now you back track. Don't release such statements until you have the facts, shoddy

Jscott you beat me to it - this sort of jibber is annoying and embarassing Reo-Coker on paper sounds like a good signing - but a 28 year old premier player without a contract in October- he either wants far too much money or there is another agenda with him. Hope we get him though- is this part of the Clegg Financial Fair Play strategy?

Not sure we really need another midfielder especially one who has not played in ages and will no doubt want a sizeable wage. As others have mentioned, what about Hyam and Carson, results seem better when they play. One plus for me if he signs though, is the fact he was born in Thornton Heath same as me, must be a good omen

And amazingly everyone is slagging the club off for the transfer not being done when the club have said nothing, bad journalism to stoke up more negative comments

what a great signing this would be! im a blue living in bolton and i had a bolton season ticket last year, he was by far there best player and if we was to get him, im sure he would do the same! and also i wish all you moaning d**ks would SHUT THE F*CK UP atleast hes trying to do something and yes maybe our priority is cb, but how do you know he is not going to play N'Daw or that southend guy if we get another midfielder in?

GibbsITFC - do everyone a favour - forget to post. Chances are it won't happen anyway - Reo Coker is a very decent player, but he won't sign for peanuts, or a paltry contract, which is exactly what we are likely to offer him. My guess is he will have better options.

u lot really are unbelievable, a few years back when he was playing for west ham he looked like a future England international! He is still a quality player and still a premier league player at a good age and you are all being so negative. Its pathetic! We should be getting excited about this even if it isnt looking likely to happen. And if it doesnt so what? Worth a crack surely! I hope town can turn it around, not just because I love the team but so they prove the 90 percent of our fans that are thickle, negative And pathetic wrong!

does anyone know what jewellio is doing? how can you sort a team out when we have a revolving door of players, sone here for a few days some for a few weeks. others signed then dropped and not in the squad. pj is psychollogically flawed and heis reverting to type by signing loads of players and changing tactics daily. it's derby all over again. get rid.

Yes please as a full time signing. But if it happens it does highlight the fact that we are overloaded with midfielders and lacking in defensive and even possibly attacking options and that is why we are losing!! If only Clegg knew football?!! I'm trying really hard not to mention Jewell in a negative way...doh!! COYB.

Everybody complaining, would be a superb signing in my opinion & bring a lot of experience & strength to the team, now we just need a defender or two in January !

I think midfield IS top priority. At CB we have Chambers & now Higginbotham who has added some strength, organisation, presence & Prem quality. For all you moaning that he is a loan player, consider this: His Stoke contract runs out in the summer & he is not in the 25 man squad. Good signing IMO, most likely have a chance to sign him in Jan, probably couldn't get him in the summer as Stoke hadn't named their 25 man squad at that time. Now back to our midfield. It's hardly setting the division on fire! - it needs improvement and it's one reason why the defence is conceeding goals. If we keep the ball & attack, then we don't invite pressure on our defence. Simples. DReo Coker. IF he is still as good as he was, then he is just what we need. Recently, 3 of our 5 midfield have been loans. He is captain material, a leader, a presence and would be perm. He used to have a goal or two in him too. Great signing if we can get him. Wages an issue? Well unless he asks for a kings ransom, it appears (as is evident with the Campbell signing) that Evans is realising we have to offer competitive salaries to compete in this league. Why didn't PJ get him in the summer? Maybe Reo Coker thought clubs would be knocking his door down to sign him from the Prem. It hasn't happened for him. Why? Maybe football is starting to get hit with the credit crunch like the rest of us!

P.S: calm down everyone, Jewell has just made 3 very good signings, this might be number 4. It also shows the club are releasing funds to strengthen.

Why so Many Midfield players we should be playing Loungo/Hyam & N'Daw/Carson on the bench. He will be good for us but We already got a good Midfield need Defenders.

Dissboyitfc added 00:47 - Oct 14
Yes orkneyblue, read it on itfc,co.uk too. so what does that mean? 3 months are we getting him match fit to move onto somewhere else in January? The mind boggles as much as i want to see a plan, i simply cant see it. this team and any team needs continuity, if success is to be achieved. This one is straight over my head.... coyb
