Loach Taken Out of Firing Line
Friday, 19th Oct 2012 06:04

Town boss Paul Jewell says keeper Scott Loach has been taken out of the firing line following a drop in form. The Blues manager signed Stephen Henderson on a three-month loan from West Ham earlier this week and the Irishman is set to make his Town debut at Hull on Saturday.

Jewell says even before the errors in the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff a fortnight ago, the summer signing from Watford had been under par: “I think Scott’s lost a little bit of confidence, not just against Cardiff, I think one or two goals have gone in and he’s not been at his best.

"So we just want to take him out of the firing line for a bit. He’ll come back strongly I’m sure.”

He says keepers should expect the same treatment as outfield players if their performances aren’t up to scratch: “Goalkeepers like to think they’re different to anybody else, but they’re not.

“If people are having a bad time or are not playing well, they get left out. Goalkeepers are no different.

“I don’t see the big deal in it. Scott’s a young lad, he’s had ups and downs before. He’s got to take it on the chin like everybody else.

“I haven’t had a chat with him, but I think he knows that he hasn’t been at his best lately and we’ve brought somebody else in to push him along.

“Equally, anyone who comes in, if they don’t do well, their place will come under scrutiny. No one’s guaranteed a place, whether that’s a loan player or a player that is permanent.”

Regarding Henderson, Jewell says widespread reports in January which claimed that the former Pompey man had turned down personal terms with Town after the clubs agreed a deadline day fee, were incorrect: “We made an offer for three players at Portsmouth and it was rejected.

“I spoke to the lad Joel Ward, I had him here, but other than that we never got to speak to Jason Pearce or Stephen Henderson.”

Loach has demonstrated that he is not up to the job and needs to be replaced. PJ's mistake was in signing him in the first place. Replace him and move on.

Agree Dissboy!! PJ only has to start tweaking with the full backs and he has a FULL HOUSE for this season already - absolutely clueless, the least settled a starting 11 has been probably in recent memory of ITFC and here in lies part of the problem.

One of the worst press statements I've read / heard from PJ... How can he take on a loan keeper and drop our main keeper by letting him find out in the press!! Shocked

This club is no further forward. i was totally behind Jewell being given time and now with the benefit of hindsight i can totally say without any fear of contradiction he will not turn this around. His decisions on how to handle players is nothing short of shocking at times. There are some players who last season continued to make mistakes and yet they were never dropped. I could go on about this mistake that decision and blah blah blah. i have always fought what i felt was a balanced argument with the facts available. And people the facts at present are this, we are second from bottom and the town side starting tomorrows match will have 3-4 players (if that much) who are at this moment in time contracted to be ipswich players this time next year.

There will be those amongst us who feel he should be given more time, i am no longer one of these people. whilst he is here i will still cheer every victory. The facts for me are simply overwhelming in favour of the fact he is not taking us where we want to be. What is an even bigger worry is if he can keep us in this league. These really are worrying times at our beloved football club.

I would really love to know the argument for Jewell staying in the managers seat as i no longer see it. There is an old saying and it goes like this , "practice makes perfect" this only counts if you are practicing the correct things! If however the practice is centered around doing the wrong things the saying should be altered to, "Practice makes permanence". This is why we are stuck in this league, with no apparent signs of progress. WE NEED A CHANGE IN WHAT WE ARE PRACTICING... was nothing learnt from last season and the season b4 and the one b4 that and so on...coyb

Loach low on confidence so to boost, encourage and motivate him.....i'll get a keeper of equal or lesser quality in on loan and not bother to talk to him about it. Probably tweeted him!! #pjpleasego

This is NOT good at all for ANYONE's morale ... just think ... Loach is signed and then dropped pretty quick as a "sorry, I got it wrong, you are not good enough for my team" response

Worse than this - ALB is not even good enough to come in for a few games to help the squad compete for places. Will he go the same way as Cropper ... or will PJ come up a cropper first?

He asked for 10 games and I've consistently said we should calm down and give him that. PERSONALLY, I was willing to give him a couple more due to the injuries to key players he has bought in - but ... if we don't beat Hull then ... sorry Paul, thank you and good night.

I am in town to see Town v Burnley in November and sadly do not expect to see PJ there - if we win all our games up to that point then I'll be happy to shake his hand, but it will take 100% on points and lots of goals and clean sheets to convince me that Paul has a future in management anywhere above a youth level ... except that apparently he never goes near youth games either !

h32. at no time in the past year have i put the blame on keane for this situation(.prior to that yes i did, & i think it was fair to say that then). so if you trying to say i am then think again. just because i can put a balanced argument on here where as you just put negative comments doesnt mean im backing pj. far from it. imo he should have gone weeks ago. however, i do believe signing a new keeper, albeit on loan was necessary at this time. as ive already said the fact he hasnt spoken to loach is totally wrong but the facts are that loach is proving , at least at this moment in time, to be no better than alb.

Feel gutted for Loach. Can't see how this is supposed to improve his confidence between the sticks. A poor decision by Jewell.

Loach seems to be like a few of our dud signings.. signed on form for the odd game or two going back two or three years.. consistent form in a player seems a rare breed
