Chopra Defends Night Out Five
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 21:06

Striker Michael Chopra has defended the five players who were spotted out in Town on Wednesday. Earlier today, Town said they were looking into claims that Chopra and four of his team-mates were out in Vodka Revolution late on Wednesday evening.

A club spokesman said that the matter is being checked out, despite no rules having been broken: “We are aware that a number of our players were out late into the evening on Wednesday.

“Although they were not breaking any official club rules by being out, this has been brought to the attention of chief executive Simon Clegg and caretaker manager Chris Hutchings who are now dealing with it.”

Chopra launched a robust defence on Twitter, disputing that they were out late: "Did not realise going out on a Wednesday was a big thing. Not as if I was drinking and [was] back home at 11.30. Some people need to get a f***** life.

“I’ve done nothing wrong, it was Carlos’s birthday. You’re telling me you’re going to stay in when it’s your mate’s birthday? Don't think you would. People make things out to be worse than what it is.”

We understand that at least another one the players involved returned home at a similar hour to Chopra.

Birthday boy Edwards had been withdrawn from Wednesday’s Supporters Club AGM as chief executive Simon Clegg felt the players needed to be concentrating on footballing matters given the current situation.

Chopra maybe you didn't realise you utter cretin, that it might have seemed insensitive and possibly not the best thing to do on a day when Jewell had just left the club and enough negative publicity surrounding the players at this time

Well, Chopra doesn't make life easy for himself, does he?

For someone paid huge amounts to (recently) sit quietly to watch a football match, he really should have his twitter feed confiscated. I am unfortunately disliking him mo0re and more as time goes on. Strikes me as having a petulant child syndrome.

Can understand Chopra's point and respect him being annoyed at being villanised by certain twitter followers but using the swear word and being so robust in his own defence makes it hard for the club to defend this reaction in the future.

Have to agree with him on this. So much speculation these days result in controversy.

Oh, and I didn't care that they went out, but this reaction says far more about Chopra than a simple night out.

Not the greatest crime has to be said but Chopra owes us big time and never appears to be that far away from problems. A very big disappointment up to now - where are the 25-30 goals Chops ?

Well there's a surprise Chopra defending himself on twitter, he might be telling the truth as we don't know the full details but interesting that just 1 other player returned home before midnight , not sure they can make a case for the other 3 particularly coming on the day Jewell resigned - probably a double celebration for them.

Oh Chopra! Have you not learnt anything! Tweeting something like is only going to make the matter worse!

Grow up! You're in the public eye and I'm afraid with your track record plus what this club has done for you, people are going to be judgmental and feel they can have their opinion - FACT!

The secret.... Don't give anyone anything to talk about apart from the goals you score!!!

Grow

Why on earth don't you just keep it low key - the response I mean! if you've done nothing wrong you don't need to say anything on Twitter for goodness sake

The players are not prisioners and I see nothing wrong in them going out to celebrate Edwards' birthday. I think the original story did say that Chopra was not drinking alcohol, so it seems rather a non-story to me.

"Birthday boy Edwards had been withdrawn from Wednesday's Supporters Club AGM as chief executive Simon Clegg felt the players needed to be concentrating on footballing matters given the current situation."

This is why a few of us are dismayed.

Chopra, your a joke!

If you can see no problem with this, your an even bigger pleb than I thought you were.

"I've done nothing wrong, it was Carlos's birthday. You're telling me you're going to stay in when it's your mate's birthday?" Yes I would stay in if I was a professional football with a history of trouble who is paid a fortune to score goals but doesnt and just seen my boss walk out hours earlier with my club bottom of the league and 1 step off meltdown!!!!!

Seriously.... Why is this even a problem, team members should be going out more together, lifting team spirits and bonding!! Can't believe what I heard on town 102 today that fans were complaining about seeing them out... What??
This shouldn't even be made into anything at all... Get a grip on life people!

Bet he has had half a million out of the club in wages, he was given a life line by Jewell when Cardiff had give up on him.

Free transfer out of the club and give his wages to Campbell

Spot on Chops but the guys really need to prove a point by stuffing the Owls on Saturday else the knives will remain sharpened!

Also, spot on mawwam, glad someone shares my thoughts and has some sense around here.

I heard Adrian Durham read out a Chopra tweet earlier where he had aimed more abuse at the fans. I'm sick of this guy, it's simple Michael, score your 30 goals you bragged about or just..........

Chopra stop doing your talking on twitter and start doing your talking on the pitch scoring goals for god sacke you cost big money and so far tbh it's all gone down the drain mate sort it out.

Your mate was meant to be at home 'preparing for the game' or the AGM.

Common sense lad.

Having players on our books with such clear floors is one of the reasons we are in the mess we are. I would be glad to see the back of this 20 goal a season man!

I have no problem with the night out but common sense would suggest greater sensitivity in understanding why it might not be seen in a good light and also another petulant reaction from an unfit second choice striker. He's salvaged a PR disaster from a perfectly understandable situation. Loan him out somewhere for a while, he clearly doesn't enjoy being part of ITFC.

I like the idea of a team bonding session down the pub! The captain should have taken all the newbies along to speed up their integration!

A bit of respect for the fans who pay your wages might help your cause? Now go score the goals you promised after your pre-season "holiday" in USA rather than digging yourself a bigger hole than you are already in!

Don't see a problem with this at all. Any of us would go out for a drink for a mates birthday during the week i'm sure, they're no different. Let's move on.
