No Discussion on Coaches' Futures
Friday, 2nd Nov 2012 00:03

Mick McCarthy says he’s yet to make any decision on the remaining members of Paul Jewell’s coaching staff. Assistant manager Chris Hutchings left the club by mutual consent earlier today with Terry Connor taking on his role, but no further changes have as yet been made. Still at the club from the Jewell era are coaches Mark Kennedy, who played for McCarthy with Millwall and the Republic of Ireland, Sean McCarthy, fitness coach Andy Liddell, U18s coach Russell Osman and fitness consultant Steve Williams.

McCarthy says their situations have not yet been discussed: “As I said when I went in to Wolves and anywhere else I’ve been, I’ll go in and see what is there and we’ll see what we do.

“That’s not high on my agenda at the moment. Getting a result on Saturday is. I do know Mark, I know Sean and I know Andy as well, so I know most of them that are in there.”

McCarthy, who plans to get a house in the area as he has done at his other clubs, was linked with Nottingham Forest in the summer and confirmed that there had been interested parties between his Wolves sacking in February and him joining the Blues this week: “I’ve spoken to people in that time.”

However, he denied that he had been contacted about a return to his old job with Ireland: “I think that was so unfair on Giovanni Trapattoni because they had a victory, however it was achieved, against Kazakhstan, and then they got spanked by Germany 6-1, which really was a doing of epic proportions. But then Sweden were 4-0 down to them, although I know it ended four-all.

“It was a bit like the group in Euros, I never fancied them to get through that, and I never fancied them to beat Germany, but they beat the two teams that they should, and then my name is getting linked with them.

“There were all sorts of stories that I’ve been tapped up and I’ve spoken to them, but it was barefaced lies. Nothing in it at all.”

Needs to look at the scouting system. Pretty sure there is plenty of good young hungry players in the lower leagues - like Cresswell and Hewitt - who would come here and only get better

Cresswell has been partly or fully to blame for a number of goals this season and has looked a shadow of himself from last. Hewitt hasn't played a game for the first team. MM , first of all needs to get the best out of what he's got, and then fill the gaps to the best of his ability.

Cressy "partly or FULLY? to blame for a number of goals this season" - I'd say it's the 6 players in front or the 3 to his right that's been the issue, indeed the one behind. Personally, I think the team's to blame. Picking one out is cr@p.

Cresswell was our worst player at Hull. He needs competition for his place. And if he could actually tackle & defend it would help. Maybe having a manager who was a defender will help.

as any defender knows you rely on those in front of you to provide some degree of protection. I think most of the players have played well at some point this (apart from chopra) but consistency has been lacking. edwards has picked up a couple of deserved MOM's, Martin was outstanding against Blackburn and JET played a really good defensive game against Brighton. Cresswell has been off form, Loach and most others have been inconsistent. Hyam has been unlucky since great game against Blackburn and we could of done with having Taylor being available in recent weeks. we can't keep a lead for toffee so perhaps lessons in parking the bus when winning away might be a good start, playing 442 at home would go down with many of us as would bringing on subs early enough in the game to effect the result

@bigolconnor You do realise Hewitt has been injured all season don't you? Maybe Cresswell has been to blame for some goals, but its wrong just to single out one player and blame him for all of the goals! Town Fans need to have Positivity!

"Spank" is a word McCarthy loves. If we lose any games heavily under him, he will say we got "spanked"! Love it.

Floridaboy mentioned Cresswell and Hewitt. I was responding to his comment with regards to the need of scouts. I haven't singled anyone out. The whole team has been turd. Why the hell would I write such a remark on an apparently unrelated news story if I wasn't commenting on someone else's post.
