Wickham Linked With Return Wednesday, 7th Nov 2012 13:52 Town boss Mick McCarthy wants to bring ex-Blues frontman Connor Wickham back to Portman Road on loan, according to reports in the North-East. Wickham joined Sunderland, the club McCarthy managed for three years until 2006, in the summer of 2011 for an initial fee of £8.1 million but has rarely featured for the Black Cats.
Wearsiders' boss Martin O’Neill is understood to be willing to allow Wickham to move out on loan with McCarthy said to have been interested in the England U21 international during his time at Wolves.
Former Blues manager Paul Jewell all but ruled out a move for Wickham in the summer due to the proportion of his wages Town, who have first refusal on the 21-year-old if he were to be sent out on loan, would be required to pay.
Earlier this week, McCarthy played down the chances of any immediate further loan additions to his squad with eight players already at the club on that basis.
Six of that total — Richie Wellens, Stephen Henderson, Massimo Luongo, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell and Bilel Mohsni — are domestic loans with only five permitted in a matchday squad.
Blackburn Rovers and Wolves are also reported to be interested in Wickham, who has made just six starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring one goal, since moving to Wearside.

The youngest washed-up has-been in football. Total waste of space. Will have left the game in 2 years' time.

Surely the priority at this time is the defence. Quite honestly we don't have one as the statistics speak for themselves. Why are we always intent on getting players in who were once here? January can't come quick enough so that we can hopefully bring in some players with quality!! How ever we have hit this low ebb is baffling to me. I do worry that we won't be able to get the sort of players in that we need. I hope that I am wrong !! Mick Mc Carthy has some challenge on his hands !!!!!!.

Elizabeth, No doubt MM has others in mind to bring in ( and hopefully has the contacts- and respect-to get good players wanting to join us). PJ mentioned his wages but some of the loanees will be gone soonish (including DJ seeing as he is scoring- QPR need him back!) and so I think he would be a good and affordable addition. He must be desparate to kick start his career again as well as keen to help his old club out. OK he's hardly prolific but still young and surely will be a better player now than when he left us?

Loach Chambers Mohsni Higginbotham Cresswell Edwards Reo-coker N'daw Martin Campbell Scotland I feel chambers is too lightweight at centreback. Put Mohsni in there and use his tenacity to win the ball. Effectively we would have a back 3 when we are attacking, with Cressy moving up the wing getting crosses in, which will then allow Martin to do what he does best, drift in and get behind the front two. Chambers not so much getting forward as we have edwards right mid.

About time HYam had a decent regular start in the team and Edwards pushed into right midfield too, the others can be Martin, Reo-Coker/N'Daw.

I bet Mick would play him in his correct position (forward) unlike Jewell did!
