Villa Game Close to Sell-Out
Monday, 17th Dec 2012 17:22

Town are close to selling out their 2,900 allocation for the FA Cup third round tie at Aston Villa on Saturday 5th January. Tickets go on general sale by phone only from 9am tomorrow with no additional seats being made available.

Ticket office manager John Ford told the club site that the remaining tickets — which include some restricted view seats — will go on sale first thing on Tuesday: “We are closing in on selling out our full allocation of 2,900 tickets.

“We will have tickets on sale tomorrow but all sales will now be via telephone only on 0844 80 11 555, with lines open from 9am.”

Meanwhile, the Town squad celebrated their annual Christmas party in London at the weekend, taking the train back down south from Leeds alongside supporters after Saturday's game, while striker Michael Chopra has tweeted a photo of himself with Bradley Wiggins after the Tour de France victor was named the Sports Personality of the Year last night.

If the club want any more tickets (over the original 2900 Villa allowed them to have up front) they would have to take the remaining tickets and pay up front. Big risk to take! If they only sell another 500 they will be left very much out of pocket. I'm a season ticket holder and I went and got my ticket as soon as they went on sale. All season ticket holders have had plenty of time to buy a ticket. I doubt very much they would sell 6000 tickets when for most away games 400 or 500 odd tickets are sold.

Why does ITFC never learn the lessons from previous cock ups?

I thought we had established that the fairest way is to offer tickets first to the regular away supporters so why have we now reverted to opening the door first to the supporters who go once in a lifetime when we get a decent FA cup draw to the exclusion of the regular away supporters who are not season ticket holders ?
Perhaps Mr Clegg or the Ticket Office Manager would like to answer this.

As a Season Ticket holder I have my ticket for Villa so I have no axe to grind but I have great sympathy for the away regulars who will miss out.

ipswich town fc should be ashamed of yourselves , we have put up with dross mainly this season and we the fans have a chance for a great day out and you only allocate us 2,900 out of 6,000 , DISGRACE ...... its got nothing to do with the av away attendance its a one off game which will draw the fans . so if we played naaaarwich we av 650 away fans naarwich would allocate us 2,500 so would say we will have 1.200 dont happen does it its simple , you have to pay for the tickets upfront and your not backing ya fans , simple answer A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS..........

Even if we took 6000 tickets, sold 4000 and had to pay for the 2000 unused, at £20 a ticket (adult price) that's only £40,000. Surely Marcus Evans could stomach that, to get more fans there! I am a season ticket holder and have my ticket, but I'd love to have more fans there. All this guff about "the average away attendance is ..." goes out of the window - it's FA Cup 3rd round day, away at a Prem club for goodness sake! If other clubs adopted that ridiculous rationale, then you wouldn't have had AFC Wimbledon taking taking the equivalent of an entire home gate away to MK Dons.

@jaspercon- think you are correct. I was told any extra were on a sale but no return basis. As you say we could have been left holding a fist full. Although I would have thought that we could have sold at least 1000 more. However selling nearly 4000 would have meant that they were counting on about 30 per cent of season tickets holders would go. Given that I expect 50 per cent of those wouldn't be able to that would leave say 1500+ to go to other supporters and we struggle to get them in at a home match

It makes perfect business sense to me, i am not a Clegg fan but why would you want to take over 6000 tickets and possibly only sell 4000 of them, then have to pay Villa £40,000 for not selling them all. No Brainer for me!!!

Only my opinion of course.

@Chicago Blue

Plus don't forget that as it's a cup tie Ipswich would get a cut of the ticket sales as well.

See you all in the North Stand Lower....it's quickly turning into the away end at half the price of the official away end! AVFC must be crazy not to offer those tickets on sale or return to Ipswich....that way they'd be getting £20 instead of the £10 they are currently charging.....Brummie Dummies!

of course i am going try early in the morning, im sure villa stewards will chuck you in the away end. my uncle is a manchester united fan, and a few years ago he was in the villa end then removed him from the home end and chucked him in the away end without a seat in site!

Im still hoping Clegg grows a brain in the next few days and decides to take up what we are allowed. I think we might not completely sell out 6000 but we would come close. I know its more local but I remember an FA Cup game at Watford a few years ago when we sold out about 4 or 5000 tickets. Praying Clegg changes his mind, otherwise the some loyal fans will be missing out

Why the Holt End! Furthest away from the Ipswich fans, more expensive and where the hardcore sit.

Charnwood added 21:10 - Dec 17
As a Town fan living in the Midlands it's far easier to obtain tickets to sit with the Home Fans even though I'd prefer to sit with and feel safer sitting with Town fans. Unfortunately ITFC make it difficult for those of us who have moved away from Suffolk and find it easier to watch Town play away rather than travel the 300 or so mile round trip to home games.

No logic in your argument. The allocation has virtually been sold to existing priority members, having even more priority members will make the problem of scrambling for a few tickets even worse!!

Villa tickets - the facts!

The Club had the option of

1. Take up 3k tkts on a sale or return basis

OR

2. Pay entirely for 6k tkts - with NO returns allowed, and hope to sell them all.

For every 1k tkts unsold it would cost ITFC £20K.

We would not sell out...and we are not in a position to throw away £20k for 1k tickets left unsold.

Like many others i am a little cheesed off by these arrangements . I go to every away game and have followed the town for 35 years. There is no point in having a membership for away priority (although i was for many years) as the fixtures are never sold out with the current state of the football. But the true supporters set off on their journey week in week out to their destination .How many fans were there at cold ,wet Burnley last year , Barnsley. ? 400 maybe. FA cup at Blackpool 2 or3 years ago , temporary stand ,freezing weather , there wasn't 2900 there for that cup clash i can promise you !!!! There should be an away ticket prioity for those who are committed to away games. Anyway i shall be there on Boxing Day at Charlton and Wolves on saturday with the rest of the true fans.Funny enough ,didnt have trouble getting tickets for those games but dont expect to see 2900 coming to them ( it would be great if there was !) See you all with the Villa Fans.

Perhaps everyone with a grouse should email ITFC Customer Services in the morning complaining, in reasonable language, about the small ticket allocation for the game!!!!
