Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he has made no approach for Kilmarnock keeper Cammy Bell, contrary to comments made by Killie boss Kenny Shiels on Friday.

McCarthy dismissed the claim in the strongest possible terms: “It was a lie if he confirmed it. There’s no truth in it, he was lying or he’s telling fibs.

“Is lying too strong? Because I’ve not spoken to him and if somebody from this club has spoken to him, they’ve done it without me saying so, and if they have, I’m going to be pretty cheesed off. No truth in it at all.”

Bell is out of contract at the end of the season and able to talk to interested parties. Rangers and various English clubs are believed to be interested.
