For me a lot of the problem is confidence, or rather lack of it. I thought we started slowly but as the first half went on got more into the game and played some decent stuff for the last 15 minutes or so. We started the second half OK but as soon as they scored the penalty you could see the confidence drain from our players. The rest of the half was exactly the same as Preston last week, lots of possession but no cutting edge. At present this team looks horribly short of goals, hopefully the new signings and two weeks on the training pitch will help to sort that. |

To be fair up until a few days ago it hadn’t been brilliant! |

Far to many people thought this season was going to be a walk in the park and are now getting a reality check! It’s going to be difficult. Last time we caught the Championship by surprise, this time they’re ready for us. Add to that the turnover in the squad and a transfer window which hasn’t gone entirely to plan, so far at least. Confidence in front of goal is also a problem, we don’t seem to have any! I think last season may have affected the players more than we thought. [Post edited 24 Aug 9:00]

I think last season has had more of an effect on the players than people realise. We look totally devoid of any confidence in front of goal with players taking too many touches or putting in another pass when a shot is the better option. We are also very lightweight up front still. The three behind Hirst get pushed off the ball far to easily for me. Lack of physicality cost us last season and is still a problem. |

Ashton has done very well for us but doesn’t help himself with his comments sometimes. If we have ‘attacked the market’ it hasn’t gone that well yet! |

I know very little about him either, hopefully it works out, but paying £12 million for a player who has been warming the bench for Leicester seems way over the top. I guess it’s what happens if you leave business this late in the window though! I’d like to think he’s here as the Burns replacement and we are still in for the Norwegian kid. If he’s here as Hutchinson’s replacement it’s pretty underwhelming, for me anyway. |

I’m going to reserve final judgment until the widow closes but, as it stands, if this is attacking the market I’d say our attack has been a failure so far! |

Absolutely! Keeping on the right side of FFP, or whatever it’s called these days, is a must and going the loan route with an obligation to buy if we get promoted where we can, but not being landed with massive fees if we don’t, seems a sensible way of going about things. We clearly are prepared to splash the cash if we have to but why take unnecessary risks if we don’t. |

EADT have picked it up as well. Sounds as if this has progressed well beyond just being interested. He would be the Hutchinson replacement so I guess we were waiting for that deal to be done before trying to get this one over the line. |

From memory Burns wasn’t expected to be back until December anyway so not registering him now would make sense. |
