Murphy: Must-Win Game
Friday, 8th Mar 2013 06:00

Town’s trip to face relegation rivals Peterborough tomorrow has been labelled a must-win game by Daryl Murphy.

The on-loan Celtic player, who has stressed his desire to make the move permanent in the summer, is in no doubt as to the importance of the London Road clash.

Victory for second-bottom Posh will take them to within two points of Town — and Darren Ferguson’s men will still have a game in hand.

But should Ipswich, already four points clear of the drop zone, register their sixth away win of the season it will give their survival chances a massive boost.

Murphy said: “I would say it’s a must-win game. If results don’t go our way we could be dragged back down so we need to go there and secure all three points.

“We are dealing with the pressure. I think we’ve been fine but obviously we are taking every game as it comes. We all know how big this one is.

“No one is fooling themselves that it’s not. We know how important it is and hopefully we can get the right result.”

Murphy said the fact that Town had been reduced to nine men in Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest would have no bearing on the outcome tomorrow.

He added: “I don’t think we will use tiredness as an excuse if things don’t go well at Peterborough. We know how demanding the league is — we’ve played a lot of games recently — and we’re used to it. Also, the fitness levels are top-notch here so that’s not an issue.”

Murphy if you score a winner here you can stay as long as you want.

We need to win, but it is vital that we don't lose. Peterborough are such an unpredictable side but if we work as hard as we did second half against Leicester we should have enough quality to get an important victory. Gutted I'm not going but good luck and have a good away day tomorrow

Arguably the most important game of the season, although that may be said for all of our last 9 games

I really think we'll have great away support for this one tomorrow, it's cracking little old stand and the terrace always gets the fans more buoyant. Peterborough may be unpredictable but I think Mick will set us up in the right way, solid at the back and I really get the feeling Mcgoldrick will score. 2-0 away win my prediction

I shall be shouting my heart out along with my lad and old man tomorrow. Never been there before. Looking forward to it although expected rain might make it interesting. Anyone know how well the away support are covered from the rain?

away support at Peterborough is all covered, most is covered terrace behind the goal and there's a small section of seats in the corner

Its a big game for us but an even bigger game for Posh.
I will be very interested to see how both teams cope with the pressure.

Completely agree. We need to go to peterboro with the sole intent of winning the game. However, goals - particularly away from home have been very hard to come by.
