Azón 'Won't Sign For Town'
Wednesday, 6th Aug 2025 16:29

Como’s Spanish striker Ivan Azón is reported to have told his club he will not sign for the Blues on loan and will only leave the Serie A side to join Valencia.

The Blues emerged as contenders to bring in the 22-year-old on Friday, protracted talks with Valencia having stalled.

At the weekend, it was reported in Spain that Azón still favoured a switch to the Mestalla and now, according to Spanish radio network Cadena SER, the former U21 international has told his club he will not join the Blues with Valencia the only club he wants to move to.

Valencia are understood to have offered Como €500,000 (£435,000) to loan Azón for the season with the Blues reported to be willing to pay nearly triple that figure.

The Murciélagos are now said to be weighing up whether to offer a sum nearer to the Blues’ figure, with other clubs in Spain, Getafe among them, and an unnamed Bundesliga side also said to be keen, or look elsewhere for a frontman.

Azón, who is 5ft 11in tall, started his career with his hometown club Real Zaragoza before moving to Como in January for €2 million (£1.7 million) plus a further €500,000. He is yet to take to the field for Como, in part due to injuries.

For Real Zaragoza, he scored 27 goals in 150 appearances, also picking up nine assists.

His goal scoring record is pretty poor. Can surely do better?

Bit rude. Could have chosen his words a bit better and let us down a bit gently. Oh well... his loss.

I’m not disappointed to read this, if you compare this guy to Akpom, then there’s a cavernous void between them.

Remember this is what a reporter has said is his position. Added to that the comments as reported, and if made, have been translated from Spanish to English.
Plenty of scope there for misrepresentation and clickbait.

Good. Not at all what we need from what I’ve seen particularly as he isn’t keen anyway. Am hopeful (with not much expectation) that we are after Mihailo Ivanovic from Milwall alongside Chuba Akpom. Is Broady and Hutch going we need to spend wisely. Also hopeful were some way down the line with getting Liam Millar in from Motherwell or Marcel Ruiz. If so, I’d regain faith that our CX and recruitment team have some form of plan. It is feeling a bit desperate again unfortunately.

He is Spanish so wanting to go to Valencia is understandable. Akpon will give us some muscle with an eye for goal …….. if he signs .

One goal every six games. Hardly prolific. No loss at all.

Offering to pay 3x the loan fee that Valencia have agreed is madness and smacks of desperation. Still think it’s a shame we didn’t sign Keiffer Moore for £2million

Not too bothered by this as he’s been dragging his feet which is indicative of a player who is not fully committed to the move. Personally I think we need more of a goalscorer to challenge for the striker role not a backup player for Hirst. A player who is looking to improve himself and make the next step up as with Delap. Yes I realise we are now a Championship club but we need to build a team capable of stepping up. Last years recruiting wasn’t great albeit we had some useful additions.I think Ashley Young will prove to be a very good acquisition

Get Ivanovic he is perfect for KM. Just the type we want. Offer Milwall 10-15 million they will snap our hands off. He is an even better Hirsty.

jass0999, yes I would imagine so to. An example to mull over, ironically the Werder Bremen player who Birmingham were supposed to be chasing when they originally decided to drop the Akpom persuit. Marvin Ducksch, ok he's 31, but a look at his record in the Bundesliga last season reads like this. 30 appearances, 8 goals, not anything to get excited about, however if you add on the 8 assists he also got, you get a goal involvement in a slightly better than 1/2 ratio. Also a summing up of his strengths and weaknesses on the stats site I frequently use, is heavily in favour of strengths over weaknesses. So just one example out of a few I expect.

Why are we bidding for players who have no interest in joining us.
This is the third time this window we have been publicly turned down.
